Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt was paid
Consumer Complaint: On or about XX/XX/2013, we contacted our then current cellular provider ( XXXX ) to advise them of our desire to change carriers and confirm that our account status was paid and up to date. We were advised that in order to change carriers, we had to have a {$0.00} balance with our old carrier prior to changing to a new one ( XXXX ). We spoke to a XXXX representative at the store literally 100 ' down the mall from the XXXX store who informed us that our account balance was {$0.00} and we were free to change carriers. We also confirmed this with XXXX, who had to do a check on our account in order to import our current cellular numbers over to XXXX. We were informed that this could be done and we could initiate a new account at XXXX and did so. We received several invoices from XXXX many months after terminating our account with them and disputed the amount over the phone with customer service reps. Years later, we received notice that the debt had been transferred to XXXX XXXX, who was listed as the new creditor. When we inquired with Convergent, we were never sent any supporting documentation of the actual amount or how that amount was reached, only that they said we had a balance of approximately {$1200.00} that was from our termination of our account. We have disputed the matter using XXXX XXXX and Convergent still lists the account as valid. We would like to have the matter removed from our credit report, as we do not believe the debt to be valid.

Consumer Complaint: I have written and sent 3 validation letters to XXXX XXXX to validate a debt owed. Starting XX/XX/18 ( 1st letter ), around XX/XX/18 ( 2nd letter ), and XX/XX/18 ( 3rd letter ). The 1st letter they did not send the information requested just a printout which stated not to send a printout, the 2nd letter there was no response, and the 3rd the same printout. They continue to not validate the debt with a contract and my signature stating I owe this bill. It has compromised my credit worthiness due to this false and incorrect account on my credit report. It has also harmed me getting new lines of credit.

Consumer Complaint: I disputed an account with the credit reporting agencies about an account I see on my credit report. they claimed the account was verified and when asked how it was verified the credit bureau said " we take their word for it '' complete disbelief when I heard this. so I contacted the collection agency ( XXXX XXXX XXXX ) my self and asked for physical proof the account was mine. a contract with my signature on it, photo id used to show proof that I was me opening the account and any other identifying information used to show it was actually me. the lady claimed they don't need that nowadays to open an account. so I asked did she not find nothing wrong with that? she said that's how they do it nowadays. that's also how identity theft occurs. nobody wants to get or see physical proof of the person who is wanting to obtain goods, they just let anybody use anybody 's information.

Consumer Complaint: To whom it, may concern : On XX/XX/2017 I purchased an apple XXXX from a XXXX affiliate store in XXXX XXXX Ca. Truthfully, during the subsequent months, I did have trouble keeping up with my payments, however, XXXX was willing to extend me time on my service ... keeping my phone on, and I would get caught up. Then without any forewarning whatsoever, they would no longer work with me. At this point in time, I respectfully requested that they send my final bill as I would seek a new vendor/network. The VERY DAY after I received the final bill as requested, I also received a collection account letter from a company called Convergent. I called this firm, explained the situation, and they said ... '' take it up with XXXX '' Consequently, I have never had any further correspondence from the collection agency, and all my efforts to remove the damage to my credit report ( phone calls and letter ) have got me no where. This is a blatant and absolutely unfair, and bad business to do things in this manner. Thank you in advance for your consideration. Sincerely, XXXX XXXX XXXX

Consumer Complaint: I received notification on my credit report that I had an account in collections from XXXX XXXX 2 weeks ago. Until this point I had no idea there was any owed balances to XXXX. When I called I found out the debt is supposedly from 2013 for {$460.00}. I was unaware of this balance and have not received any notification about this matter. I never received anything from the collection agency XXXX XXXX notifying me they were trying to collect a debt, it just showed up on my credit. The only way I found out what agency reported the debt was by contacting XXXX XXXX. This debt is supposedly from 2013 but is just now showing up on my credit report after 5 years. With no notification from the debt collector I wasnt even aware there was a collection or had the chance to rectify if there was.

Subissue: Debt was already discharged in bankruptcy and is no longer owed
Consumer Complaint: The originial creditor was XX/XX/XXXX grom 2012 that was acurred in virgina. I filed bankruptcy im virginia in 2012. Also i wrote a letter asking for this debt to be removed because of the bankruptcy, and because of the statute of limitations. The only thing that has happened was this to be bounced around to new creditors that they have paid to take it over to, which I thought was illegal? The amount is {$140.00} with a new creditor bt the name of XXXX XXXX that have newly reopened in XXXX.
