Issue: Written notification about debt

Subissue: Didn't receive enough information to verify debt

Consumer Complaint: I settled this debt back in XX/XX/2012 and now another company is attempting to collect on this debt. Threatening to sue me and take me to court. I contacted Convergent and they confirmed verbally this debt was settled and closed. But will not provide me documentation stating the debt has been settled and closed.

Issue: Took or threatened to take negative or legal action

Subissue: Threatened or suggested your credit would be damaged

Consumer Complaint: This debt was paid in full in XX/XX/2017, for about {$220.00}. I verbally asked over the phone before settling this debt that in exchange for my payment, they delete this account which was ( and still is ) negatively reporting on my credit. I held up my end of the agreement and paid, but they did not hold up their end of the agreement. They are still reporting negatively on my credit report under collections, as account settled. This is NOT what was agreed upon and they are holding me back from the benefits of having good credit. I have repeatedly contacted them via phone afterwards to dispute this, but after stating what my problem is each time I call, they then transfer me to another line, then the phone coincidentally gets disconnected. I paid this account and in return this was supposed to be deleted. They lied.

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed

Subissue: Debt was paid

Consumer Complaint: My credit report had a collection placed on it from XXXX XXXX a couple of months ago. When this happened I immediately called them. This debt wasn't mine to begin with. I never owed XXXX money because I cancelled my phone and paid the early termination fees. But, they never cancelled my phone and it kept accruing a balance until I received a bill a few months later. I called XXXX to resolve at that time and they said it was fixed. So now, convergent places this on my credit and it's causing me all sorts of problems. So, I just settle the debt in order to avoid issues and pay them. They're supposed to delete the account but now it's still on my credit report. What a shame I paid a debt I didn't owe and it still sits on my credit report. They've sent me a letter stating that this debt is valid. See attached

Issue: Threatened to contact someone or share information improperly

Subissue: Talked to a third-party about your debt

Consumer Complaint: XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX/XXXX XXXX evidently turned over an unknown account to a collection company called Convergent. I have not received any correspondence from this company or phone calls. I work for a small company as in order to purchase office supplies, etc., I have a business account. My BOSS, my BOSS, came into me this morning and handed me a collection bill that was sent to HIS HOME. Again, the boss of my company received a collection notice with my name mailed to his HOME ADDRESS. I have never used his home address but have been told as an add on to his business card, it is possible his address is listed on my credit report. This company said that had my current home address but changed it to my Bosses home address. I am mortified. The representative for Convergent could not give me any answer as to why and his supervisor only told him to be a " cease contact '' in my profile to no longer contact me. I need to they could have attained my bosses HOME address, not work and how it is legal for them to send any personal correspondence about me without verifying addresses. I am worried I am going to lose my job. I need explanation from this company and what resources I can take towards releasing personal information to my employers home address.

Issue: Communication tactics

Subissue: You told them to stop contacting you, but they keep trying

Consumer Complaint: I have already disputed this debt direct with XXXX XXXX XXXX, for over 18 months on multiple occasions with several different debt collectors they have even collected {$1500.00} in good faith payments without validating the debt through one of 6 collection agency they have transferred the information to and each time I request validation I receive the same 3 forms with incomplete information from what was requested and when I respond that the information is insufficient to validate the debt, it gets transferred to another agency. Attached are only a few of the letters that I have submitted to different collection agencies employed by XXXX and at time it had been multiple agencies attempting to collect the exact same debt at the same time. I feel harassed and so does my alleged cosigner as he receives the same calls and letters, this needs to be removed from collections as they can not and have not proven that this is a valid debt that they own despite multiple attempts to validate and offers to settle this debt.

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed

Subissue: Debt is not yours

Consumer Complaint: XXXX XXXX is contacting me regarding a debt they are claiming I owe, date of service starting XX/XX/2014. I replied to them that I was stationed in XXXX XXXX, AL until XX/XX/2014 and was not in the same state that the service was rendered. They are demanding my social security number, a police report identifying a suspect, and a utility bill proving my location. I advised that the XXXX does not provide utility bills when you are stationed in the barracks. I have my XXXX proving I was in XXXX XXXX AL until XX/XX/2014 and I have provided my bank statements showing that I was using the XXXX XXXX until early XX/XX/2014, proving that I could not have been in the same state they claim the services were opened. They are claiming the debt has been " verified '' - they have sent me paperwork with the wrong address, the wrong telephone number, and an illegible signature they claim is mine. I have provided multiple documents proving that my address had changed and that I was nowhere near the service location at that time. I have disputed this debt with all three credit reporting agencies and they have removed this debt from my account. However XXXX XXXX continues to harass me regarding this debt and will not respond to my questions regarding confirming or denying the debt.
