Subissue: Debt is not yours
Consumer Complaint: Received a notice, dated XX/XX/XXXX and received XX/XX/XXXX from XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX, WA XXXX claiming we owed a XXXX debt of {$140.00}. It should be noted that we have not had a XXXX account in nearly two years and that account was in both of our names, not only my husband 's. Our previous account was closed in XX/XX/XXXX, paid in full and all equipment returned to the company. I wrote a letter to Convergent on XX/XX/XXXX disputing the debt/claim and requesting written verification of the alleged debt. Received an undated letter in return with several XXXX/XXXX statements, all addressed to a person with the same first & last names as my husband, at an address in XXXX, XXXX. I called Convergent to advise that in the past 28 years my husband has lived only in XXXX & XXXX and never has lived in XXXX. After numerous phone call attempts over several days and including numerous " disconnects '' I finally got in touch with an employee, XXXX XXXX, who advised my only remedy was to file an identity fraud claim with the FTC and would not cancel the claim against my husband. I checked a couple of credit reporting agency reports and have found that my husband 's reports include a listing of all of our residences in XXXX & XXXX and several addresses in XXXX where we/he have never lived. We also found that numerous credit checks have been run by companies with which we do not do business apparently by the other person with the same/similar name in an attempt to obtain credit. Clearly ( to us at least ) there is at least one other person in the country with the same first and last name.

Consumer Complaint: I received a message on XX/XX/2018 from my Aunt ( who has a private phone number ) and she said someone who didn't identify themselves called her looking for me and when she said who is calling they said they were calling from " XXXX '' and left a phone number for me to call them back. The number being XXXX. I recognized this number as it had called me on Tuesday, XX/XX/XXXX at XXXX XXXX. They did not leave a message. I looked up this phone number and it belongs to a company called Convergent. It is not a company that is listed on my credit report nor do I know what this is about. I did collections for 17 years and I believe they have violated the FDCPA as it states a collection agency can not call a relative if they have your phone number which they clearly do. And they keep calling my number. Also when they called my Aunt they did not identify themselves.

Subissue: Debt was result of identity theft
Consumer Complaint: A couple months ago XXXX XXXX contacted me regarding an account that was not mine that had a balance of {$2100.00} that was late. I told them that the email XXXX that is attached to that account is not mine and never has been. I immediately contacted XXXX and told them that the account was fraudulent. The person is using my name and an old address. They asked if I was selling lotions on XXXX and I said no. I have one XXXX account that I use and it's not the one they were claiming was mine. They said they would look into it. I never heard back from them. Today I received another call from XXXX XXXX for the same account and amount. I again told them this is fraudulent and then emailed XXXX about the issue so I would have written documentation of the issue at hand. I finally got XXXX 's attention on the matter because I reported them to the XXXX and sent in my police report. XXXX ( from XXXX ) called from XXXX, NE XXXX and said that they investigated and the account was stolen with identity theft in 2015 and that it was not my responsibility. XXXX XXXX just sent me a letter saying that they completed their investigation and that the debt is valid even though XXXX says it's not.

Consumer Complaint: About XX/XX/XXXX, I was informed on a credit report that I had an outstanding debt from XXXX Cable Company for {$180.00}. The information about my name, address, and last digits of my social security number were incorrect. Around this time, I had been a victim of identity theft. I completed a police report, which named the debt collections company, XXXX XXXX, on XX/XX/XXXX. The police investigation dated XX/XX/XXXX, ended with no results. I wrote XXXX about the discrepancy on my report The reporting Bureau since placed this account in " dispute. '' They also placed my name, address, and last digits of my soc. sec. number in " dispute. '' Despite the fact that XXXX eventually reported the account is " deleted '' from my report on XX/XX/XXXX, I continue to be contacted by collection agencies. I sent a letter to all the credit bureaus -- XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX -- dated XX/XX/XXXX to reinvestigate the disputed debt or delete it completely according to the provisions of the Fair Credit Reporting Act. I am currently still trying to resolve this matter, which impacts my credit for {$180.00}.
