Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt was paid
Consumer Complaint: I filed a previous complaint about Convergent Outsourcing back in XXXX of 2021 because they were attempting to collect a debt that was already paid and should have NEVER been in collections. CFPB erroneously closed that complaint and since then I have received horrible and illegal treatment by Convergent Outsourcing. After confirming that my debt was paid, Convergent Outsourcing is now attempting to extort me for {$110.00}. Convergent Outsourcing is claiming that if I pay this amount then they will recall the debt and remove it from Credit Bureaus. I would like to note that Convergent Outsourcing themselves claimed in my previous complaint with the CFPB that this debt was PAID IN FULL to the original creditor. Therefore, they should have never reported it to credit bureaus since they do not, and have never, owned the account. Now, even though the balance I owed the original creditor was PAID IN FULL, they are attempting to extort me to get it removed from my credit report. This is illegal and my rights are directly being violated by Convergent Outsourcing. I have consulted with legal counsel and I intend of pursuing legal action to the fullest extent of the law if the CFPB does not rectify this immediately.

Consumer Complaint: I have made several attempts to have this debt removed and the agency changed the date of the debt to a more recent date. I have sent them letters requesting proof and validation of the debt and have not received proof, or dates as to when this debt took place. I have reached out to both the collection agency and the credit bureaus and no one seems to have proof of this $ XXXX+ debt. I have made several attempts and at one point, someone at the collection agency said they would remove it by XXXX as they didn't have documentation due to the age of the debt and it has not been removed, it only decreased my credit when they changed the date and then reported late payments when NO PAYMENTS have been made. Please help as I tried getting a home loan and this has affected me greatly. Letters and request for proof were all sent on XX/XX/2020.

Consumer Complaint: I received a letter from Convergent a year ago ( XXXX ) regarding a delinquent cable account in XXXX XXXX with XXXX. First of all, I have never lived in Nevada and secondly, I have never heard of XXXX much less have an account with them. I spoke with a rep at Convergent and they said I would have to take it up with XXXX. I spoke with a rep at XXXX and we found that my info did not match and it was not me and that it would be reported to the collections and credit agencies. Fast forward to a year later XXXX XXXX XXXX, I received another from Convergent regarding the same delinquent account, went through the same process and NOW their info happens to match my info. I believe they updated their account a year ago when we compared information. I looked through some old paper work that I filed away and noticed that Convergent contacted me in XXXX regarding a XXXX XXXX bill that I did not ever have. I'm not sure if it is the debt collectors Convergent or XXXX who are the scammers or both! I have filed a police report for identity theft.

Consumer Complaint: I didn't received any notification about this collection account until they reported it in my credit reports. I was aware and didn't received anything from in written from Convergent advising about this balance so I didn't have the opportunity to disputed or verify this information. When I found the collection account reported in my credit reports on XX/XX/2021, I immediately contacted them to get more information and let them know I don't owned this balance. They couldn't gave me any specific details about for what is that balance, they only said it was for a balance that I suppose owned to XXXX. At this time, I haven't heard anything back from them and this account still showing in my credit report causing a financial hardship situation.

Consumer Complaint: I've made several attempts at contacting Convergent Outsourcing requesting information regarding this account. My last attempt was XX/XX/2021 where I spoke with an agent and a supervisor. They kept making debt collection attempts and settlement offers. I called to request a breakdown of charges because the amount they are attempt to collect is not what I owe. As I've stated, I've gotten no information. I disputed several times with the credit bureau as well. They will respond to them and continue to adversely affect my credit. All communication regarding this has been initiated by me. These people are very unprofessional and have made no real attempt to resolve this matter.

Consumer Complaint: The first conversation with Convergent Outsourcing Inc. was done on XX/XX/XXXX at XXXXXX/XX/XXXX. The debt amount was for {$2300.00}. Talking with agent, she said they will accept {$730.00}. I did not have that amount available at that time. Therefore, I called the next day, Tuesday XXXX of XX/XX/XXXX. I spoke with an agent and we agreed that I was going to pay the {$730.00} the amount that I had talked with the other agent the day before. When I was ready to pay he asked for my bank number or debit card. I wanted to pay with a cashier 's check so I had the cash on hand. I told the agent I had to go to the bank to deposit. At the bank I talked to the staff and they let me know that the fact that Convergent did not want to accept a bank cashiers check raised a red flag. I then proceeded to call back to Convergent to let them know that I would be paying the amount of {$730.00} using a cashiers check. I told the agent I was not comfortable giving my bank account or debit card. I was concern with fraud issues. I wanted some paperwork for my records. I also asked for a letter or email that stated in writing that Convergent had agreed to the amount before I send payment. They refuse to send me any letter or email that they would accept the amount as paid in full. And that the only form of payment was with back account, debit card, or personal check.

Consumer Complaint: I received a letter from Convergent dated XX/XX/2021 from a creditor XXXX that I do not have nor have opened any account with. They have an amount owed of {$750.00} and wanting me to settle for {$370.00}. I will not settle nor pay from a company that have been scamming people out of trying to collect on debt that is not theirs. I tried calling the number on the letter but number listed is not to this company. The creditor has no account balance or account or debt owed to them by me nor did they refer over to a collection agency.
