Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt was result of identity theft
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I was alerted by XXXX that there was an unpaid debt collection added to my credit report by a collections agency named " XXXX XXXX, XXXX '' for an unpaid balance of {$260.00}. After reviewing the item in more detail, I was able to find very limited information and could only find out that this was in relation to an unpaid balance that a company named " XXXX XXXX '' had claimed was outstanding. I have never heard of either XXXX XXXX or XXXX XXXX, XXXX and have absolutely never done business with them. I have never received any communication from either company with regards to any matter including an account being opened or an unpaid balance, and have also never received any confirmation or validation of debt on my name. On XX/XX/XXXX I repeatedly called Convergent to find out why they have an outstanding balance on my credit report and to request more details in order to resolve. I was repeatedly put on hold and transferred to several different representatives who could not provide any additional information or confirm this activity on my credit report. These attempts to find out more information resulted in them hanging up on me, as well as telling me to call their " Corporate Office '' at the same phone number which I was already dialing that directed me to the representatives I have already been speaking to. Due to the fact that there was no communication of the an account being opened with XXXX and no validation of debt provided I am very confident this unpaid collections is a result of fraudulent activity against my name and want to have it removed from my credit report as it already affecting my credit score unethically and unlawfully.
