Issue: Written notification about debt
Subissue: Didn't receive enough information to verify debt
Consumer Complaint: I sent two certified letters to CA for validation and they sent me a copy of a bill. And that according to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, I have the right to ask them to send proof of that debt. The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, a federal law regulating debt collectors, allows consumers to request the debt collector to send proof of the debt through a process called debt validation. A copy of a bill IS NOT proof of debt. I also stated they were violating my rights under the law put in place to protect consumers and I demand proof of this debt or delete it from my credit reports immediately.

Consumer Complaint: I recently noticed on my credit that there is a listing of a company name XXXX XXXX which they claim " i owe {$860.00} '' this information is incorrect and its hurting me financially. I contacted the company by register mail two times back in XXXX and XXXX of 2018 asking the removal of this incorrect listing. I stated that this account was not mine. They reply by sending me photo copies of a bill from XXXX claiming that " I owe {$860.00}, the XXXX bill had an unknown address and it was not on my name. I called the company on XX/XX/18 and the agent told me that the only way they consider the removal of the listing is by filing a police report as an identity theft case, I don't believe my identity was stolen, I believe it was a clerical error by the original creditor or by the collection company is reporting it. I wont file an identity theft because the credit bureaus may flag my credit or put a temporary lock on my credit which I believe is not necessary. it will damage me more in case I need to applied for credit.

Consumer Complaint: They are attempting to collect a debt for amounts not owed. They advise me that the bill is incorrect and acknowledged it themselves. they advised me that a final bill hasn't even been produced by XXXX but are trying to collect amounts that are not owed. and when a credit is due. so they are collecting a amounts not owed and they state that they can not follow dispute with XXXX 's even though they now have the account and the account was only the deactivated on XX/XX/XXXX but it's already in collections.so I want them to cease and desist all collection actions. I want the collection sent back to XXXX these amounts are not owed. I will pay for the days of service are utilized but they refused to take payment for that as well so this that is no longer owed and they need to not add this to my collections otherwise I will file Suit for a {$1000.00} for every violation as well I'll Sue for violation of the debt collection act they refuse to take payment and they admitted themselves these amounts are not own.

Consumer Complaint: Several months ago, I was deluged with phone calls from a company called Convergent as seen on my caller ID. They called both my land line and cell phone. On some occasions, the number had no identifier or was caller unknown. I did not answer these calls but went to a website that identified Convergent as as debt collection agency. I knew I had no outstanding debts that had been turned over to a collection agency and have excellent credit. I put a credit freeze on my accounts after the XXXX debacle a year ago. On the website it showed a place where you could enter a phone number so as not to receive any further phone calls so I entered both my numbers. The site said I would receive further notifications by mail. On Friday, XX/XX/2018, I received an invoice from Convergent representing XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX for {$74000.00} in unpaid loans. I believe this is a scam as I have no unpaid college loans. Online resources stated that XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX has had several class action lawsuits for falsely billing people.

Consumer Complaint: Contacted via phone to collect debt, never received a debt collection letter from XXXX XXXX. Stated to Convergent that I never had a XXXX account, and suspect this was a XXXX account opened by someone else. XXXX debt is for {$160.00} from XXXX, do not know exact date because I was never provided a Debt Collection letter. This debt is over 14 years old and obviously exceeds the statute of limitations for debt collections. After stating to Convergent that this was not my debt, I received a letter stating they contacted XXXX and XXXX indicated that the Identity Theft claim on the account is not valid. I called Convergent on XX/XX/XXXX and explained that I did not incur this debt and that it is outside the statute of limitations and to cancel this debt, they stated they could not cancel and debt would remain open. I then called XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX and verified with XXXX that I DO NOT owe them any money. As stated to Convergent, I have never had a XXXX account and XXXX confirmed this information.
