Issue: Unauthorized transactions or other transaction problem

Subissue:

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2023 I sent {$370.00} through XXXX on the Wells Fargo Banking App. The phone number that I sent the money to was correct but, there is more than one person associated with the same phone number. Therefore, someone else received the transfer and not the person that the money was intended to. I reached out to the bank and informed them how insecure it was for users to make a transfer since there could be more than one user associated with the same phone number. They proceeded with the investigation and denied my claim. Their response was that the transfer was completed as requested to the phone number provided. Indeed, the phone number was correct but my issue was that the person that received the money was not who it was intended to. The phone number I input was correct but due to the lack of security of the system, somebody else that had the same phone number enrolled on the platform received the money. I contacted the bank in order to appeal the decision and they denied my appeal. My final action was closing all my accounts with that institution ( Wells Fargo ) since they were not able to resolve this issue.

Issue: Problem with a lender or other company charging your account

Subissue: Money was taken from your account on the wrong day or for the wrong amount

Consumer Complaint: I bank with Well Fargo. I have been their customer since XXXX. Thankfully this is the first time ( and I hope the last one ) that I get scammed. On XX/XX/XXXX, I attempted to purchase concert tickets and paid {$170.00} dollars. The person blocked all communication as soon as I passed the money, and no tickets were received. This transaction was done via XXXX through Wells Fargo. I called Wells Fargo immediately, and they told me that the other individual had successfully received the money and that there was no way to retrieve it. They transferred me to the claim center to file a claim. I received an email informing me that it could take up to 10 business days to investigate. It has been over ten days, and as I called their claim center today, WF let me know that the case was closed. No email was sent, and no notification was given that the case had been closed. Additionally, when calling today to find out the claims status, the claim representative was rude and lacked empathy. She said that their investigation consists of checking in with the other persons bank, and it is a matter of he said, she said, and they trust the other banks customer. Situations like this make me feel very vulnerable at the lack of banks trying to look after our well-being. Kind Regards, XXXX XXXX From XXXX, AZ ( XXXX ) XXXX

Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Cashing a check

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I attempted to deposit some cash and a check at a Wells Fargo ATM, which is my bank. The ATM allows for cash and checks to be deposited together. I entered my check of {$400.00} along with some cash. The atm was unable to accept my full deposit of cash and was unable to return the items back to me. However, at that time it stated the check did go through. The ATM stated they would return my items through the mail, but if it was cash to call the bank institution, which I did and entered a claim for the {$100.00} cash, while on the phone I was confirmed that the check went into my account with no problem. On XX/XX/XXXX, I noticed the {$400.00} was taken out of my account and put my account below XXXX balance. I called the bank immediately to discuss and was told they were unsure of the problem since it was still " pending '', and was advised to call back the following day. I called the next day and was told that it was possibly taken out of my account due to the claim I submitted about the cash, but were quite unsure. On XX/XX/XXXX, I did get the claim of the {$100.00} cash approved and in my account, so that is fine. The following week I received a duplicate copy of my check through the mail and it stated it was retuned due to a " duplicate presentment '', on the copy of the check it stated it was a legal copy and I was able to use it the same way as the original check. I went to a Wells Fargo Bank to deposit this copy of the check in person and was told it was unable to go through. I explained the dilemma and was advised to call to customer service. I called and was told it should have went through since that is what the letter states and to try to go to a different branch. The following day I did and still no luck. I asked for help from a personal banker at that branch since I was getting no solution. The banker advised me if the check was returned, to just ask the issuer of my check to give me a new check since the money was returned to them. As I contacted the issuer, they stated money was never returned to their account and that the check shows as cleared. But At this point it was XX/XX/XXXX and I advise the same banker who was helping me, and she stated she could not help me much and that the issuer should be able to see that the money was returned to their account. As I continue to discuss with issuer of the check, on XX/XX/XXXX, issuer advises that they are able to see the deposit clear on XX/XX/XXXX and it was presented again on XX/XX/XXXX, but no money was ever returned to them. I go back to the banker who was helping me and she continues to try to do some more research and was able to see that the check was redeposited into someone else 's account and not mine, she was unable to print off any proof or discuss further because it is essentially not my account and couldn't give me any information. But she stated that is why my issuer/payer is seeing that the check is being cleared with no money being returned to them and why it is not in my account, since it is in someone else 's account. Unfortunately, she was unable to help me out further. The issuer has also been unable to help since this is a wells fargo doing with their atm. I have tried calling multiple times now and in between all these dates and have had absolutely no luck. I constantly get transferred numerous times and to different departments and employees that are unable to help me or see the issue in my account.

Issue: Getting a credit card

Subissue: Card opened as result of identity theft or fraud

Consumer Complaint: This is actually a YES and NO answer, because today, Monday XX/XX/XXXX I did speak to someone the Fraud Retail Services Department at Wells Fargo about a XXXX XXXX credit card that I recieved in the mail Saturday XX/XX/XXXX. Charges for over {$3000.00} were made on that card. This is a different Wells Fargo account I am reporting now. In today 's mail I recieved yet another Wells Fargo store card for XXXX XXXX. This card shows an {$8000.00} credit limit. Because I opened my mail after business hours I won't be able to contct Wells Fargo again until Tuesday morning XX/XX/XXXX.

Issue: Took or threatened to take negative or legal action

Subissue: Collected or attempted to collect exempt funds

Consumer Complaint: Ran into unavoidable financial trouble and unfortunately was unable to make payments to a wells fargo credit card. Was served with a lawsuit in XXXX by the law firm XXXX XXXX and XXXX out of XXXX Minnesota. I immediately called and tried to get it taken care of and get some sort of payment arrangement set up as I was not trying to deny the debt, I just could not afford payments temporarily. The law firm made it almost impossible to get in contact with them, I left a message on or around XX/XX/XXXX stating my name and that I wanted to settle the debt. They did not respond and went ahead with the lawsuit. I didn't fully understand the nomenclature on the papers served and lost the lawsuit by default as I thought there would be a court date attached at some point, there was not. Then on XX/XX/23 my checking account was offset {$1300.00} and my savings was offset {$3100.00}. These funds were a combination of payroll funds I had saved up, and deposit for a job that services had not and still have not been performed as the money that was supposed to go to that job was taken. I did not take action then as I thought it would be a one time thing wouldn't happen again. I then tried to settle the debt with the lawyers but my offer of $ XXXX was rejected and they wanted the balance in full. This after they had literally drained my accounts so I had nowhere near the almost $ XXXX they wanted. Then in XXXX I received a letter they were going to garnish my wages. Not much I could do about it so the garnishment began on XX/XX/23 in the amount of {$550.00}. My next paycheck was on XX/XX/23, also the day I was let go from my job. On that check, {$680.00} was taken out of my last paycheck. On the morning of XX/XX/23 I filed for unemployment at around XXXX XXXX. At XXXX my checking debit card was declined, which it should not have. Turns out the law firm did another offset of my accounts, on wages that had already been garnished! This time they took {$2800.00} from my checkings and {$410.00} from savings. Again this was out of funds that had already been garnished, so they basically took 100 % of my paycheck, and what other funds were in there were from the same job that has yet to be completed as the homeowner floated me another payment to pay for material and labor costs. I had just made a mortgage payment on XX/XX/23 that is now going to be declined causing not only an overdraft with their client ( wells fargo ), I will now incur late fees from the mortgage company and am left unable to pay it as all my funds were seized.

Issue: Applying for a mortgage or refinancing an existing mortgage

Subissue:

Consumer Complaint: It has been four years noe that I have been trying to keep my homr out of foreclosure. I have filed numerous complaints about the servicing of my mortgage by Wells Fargo and XXXX. These complaints have all followed the same course. They get forwarded to the company, the company responds denying they did anything wronh. Case closed. During this period of time I have had to educate myself about the laws and regulations for the mortgage industry. I have without a doubt had every law and regulation that exist violated once or more. I understand that the XXXX gathers informwtion and uses it to try and enforce adherence to these laws. The problem is that it isnt working and the way it is trying to be enforced does nothing to protect the individual that is experiencing the issue. Imposing fines on these corporations after the fact doesnt stop it from continuing. For the consumer there is no agency to assist with the issue as it is taking place. If by chance the consumer is aware that these laws are being broken then if they have the funds they can hire legal help. This in itself makes the consumer hopefully finding an attotney that knows yhe laws and then rely on the issue be brought inbfront of a court ( judge } that knows these lsws as well. As I have experienced first hand that probably isnt going o happen. As stated by the XXXX there seems to be a lack of understanding by the courts on the meaning of these laws. This has allowed mortgage companies a open opportunity to wrongfully foreclose on homes. I face a sell date on my home whichnis a VA backed mortgage that had the initial foreclosing started in XXXX of XXXX as I was awaiting the documents needed to start the reconsideration of my modification request because I didvnot agree with the denial I received. At thebtime of my request for reconsideration my mortgage had just been brought under 90 days lat. When I finally received the modification packet in XXXX, Wells Fargo had already started the initial foreclosing on XXXX XX/XX/XXXX. XXXX as how my request had not been denied, this is in violation of the Dual Tracking Law. After a period of two years and many other violations the servicing of my loan was transferred to XXXX XXXX in XX/XX/XXXX restarted the foreclosure while I was in a documented forbearance. At that time I had to file emergency bankruotcy o stop the sell dateof XXXX XXXX as my wife was on XXXX XXXX st home. Once this happened my mortgage was placed back in forbearance. Now, my home is facing a sell date of XXXX XX/XX/XXXX on a VA backed loan that never was presented to the VAbto seek a modification that is available. How is it that every hearing for my home was done in violation of a federal law and is proceding in violation of more federal laws. So now the mortgage company is using the law to enforce its illegal activity. This has been rough4 to the attention of the VA but at this point I am but weeks away fom a sell date. Making the mortgage company pay a fine for doing this after the fact is not an acceptable answer.

Issue: Getting a loan

Subissue: Confusing or misleading advertising

Consumer Complaint: About halfway through my program, while registering for XXXX 's summer semester, I was informed by the financial aid office that my original federal XXXX loans did not in fact cover my balance, and I would need to come up with roughly {$7400.00} to pay for the remainder of my program. My now deceased grandfather cosigned on a personal loan from Wells Fargo, and financial aid assured me all would be covered. This was a lie. Fall semester XXXX ( prior to completing my program in XX/XX/XXXX ) I was now informed by the financial aid office that there would be an additional balance of {$1200.00} or so. Wells Fargo would not allow me to increase my balance, nor add on an additional loan to pay for this remaining balance. As a result, while I continued to make payments to both XXXXXXXX XXXX and to Wells Fargo ( as I was forced to begin payments immediately while I was still XXXX XXXX XXXX ), XXXX withheld both my transcript and diploma. The school has since declared bankruptcy and permanently closed, so I am no longer to receive what I earned.
