Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt is not yours
Consumer Complaint: I received a letter from XXXX XXXX XXXX dated XXXX XXXX, 2017. This company 's action is not federally backed. This company is trying to collect a debt that is past the 4-year statute of limitation which definitely has already expired. Also in the letter they sent, there is nothing stating that the debt can not be sued over. These definitely are violations of FDCPA. Collection agencies are obligated to state this in their correspondence. I am also sending this company a letter to demand them to cease and desist any collection activity including reporting to the credit bureaus.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX i received a bill from XXXX stating i owed them a phone bill in the amount of XXXX. I asked them what the charges were, they mentioned it was for non returned equipment and for contract cancellation charges. I mentioned to them that the sales person at the XXXX NH XXXX XXXX on XXXX XXXX told me that i did not have to return the phone, i went in there due to my phone was broken and the sales person told me i was eligible for an upgrade so instead of paying the charges for the insurance i could get a free phone. I agreed to the transaction, when the transaction was completed i then asked the sales person to take the old phone he then told me that i did not have to return the phone i could keep it as a spare or throw it away. So i did not return it based on the trusting words from the salesperson. He worked there they trusted him to wait on customers and to guide them so i went with his suggestion of just keeping the phone. During that time i had given the phone to my daughter which she had lost, i then called and spoke to the Manager and he said that there was no one there that would give that advice. I was then very frustrated after receiving this large amount refusing to pay it to due the sales mans instructions. I contacted customer service and they did not comply so i told them to cancel my account and i was not paying them for cancellation fees or non returned equipment due to how i was mis-informed they then proceeded to bill me. So i have been disputing and disputing and had to luck. I then on XX/XX/XXXX sent them a letter to the collection agency XXXX XXXX XXXX located in XXXX WA asking for verification bearing my signature stating i had a financial obligation the them, they complied within the 30 days with a bill that was already in my possesion not bearing my signature of any contractural obligations regarding my signature that i have ever signed with them. I then sent them another letter on XX/XX/XXXX letting them know they failed to provide me with a copy of any viable evidence bearing my signature which they did not respond. I then contacted them via mail on XX/XX/XXXX and still no response to my request

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I received a notification from XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX stating that they were attempting to collect a debt on the behalf of XXXX XXXX in the amount of {$180.00} and that they would be willing to settle the account for {$170.00}. I found this letter to be alarming because I received a notice from XXXX stating that the same amount was due. This issue stemmed from this summer when I was supposed to have service installed at my new residence. Prior to the scheduled installation at the new residence, I cancelled the appointment with XXXX but XXXX failed to cancel the appointment and prematurely disconnected my service at my old address. As a result, I awoke to no television, internet, or phone service. It took XXXX hours to remedy the issue and as a result, they had to create a new account in order to restore my service. I was told that my prior account would be merged with this new account number for billing and statement purposes which clearly is n't the case. Ironically, I receive monthly statements for my active service and I pay my bill monthly. Until XX/XX/XXXX I never received any notification from XXXX XXXX stating that there was an outstanding bill on the previous account and that failure to submit payment would result in collection actions being taken against me. I knew nothing of this debt. While I have no issue of paying this debt, I need XXXX to remove this from collections since it was an error on their part. I take my credit very seriously and this collection will hurt my credit score and has the potential of staying on my report. On XX/XX/XXXX I contacted XXXX and explained the situation to XXXX, id # XXXX who later transferred me to a woman who later transferred me to XXXX who refused to give his id #. I spoke withe supervisor, XXXX XXXX and I advised him of the collection notice and the fact that I was not pleased with XXXX. This is because I have an active account with a triple bundle package that I pay every month. Until Saturday, I never received a notice regarding an outstanding bill on my previous residence. I explained that I was under the impression the bill from my previous residence and my current bill were supposed to be merged. He stated that was not I explained my concern for my credit rating and I was told that this account with Convergent was an in-house collection agency and would not bear adversely on my credit report.

Consumer Complaint: I was contacted by XXXX a collection agency re an alleged XXXX XXXX Debt. I disputed it via XXXX XXXX. XXXX never responded. It then appears that the debt was then sent to the 3rd collection agency XXXX. I then disputed the debt with their office within 30 days and requested they validate the debt with invoice and contract. They are reporting negative information to my credit bureau. They responded only with an invoice that does not detail the debt nor does it prove that I owe the money. There is no contract attached, and the 30 days has passed

Consumer Complaint: XX/XX/19 received a collections notice from " XXXX XXXX '' in XXXX, WA, for a XXXX debt. We have never had XXXX and have never opened an account for someone else under my name for XXXX. I called XXXX XXXX. They seemed courteous, told me they put the " account in dispute '', and that I should be sure to call XXXX also. They also said they would transfer me to " the department that will take care of that '' at XXXX. I waited on hold for a few minutes and was apparently connected to XXXX. When " XXXX '' picked up, I explained my situation ( the above details ) and the line was disconnected. So, I called XXXX and went through 4 people to finally get someone to put this bill in dispute. I looked up " XXXX XXXX XXXX '' online and ran across others who have similar experiences with a very official looking collections notice. Thank you for doing what you can to shut these people down.

Consumer Complaint: Starting last year, I started receiving letters from XXXX XXXX, a collection agency regarding a XXXX XXXX debt. I had a XXXX XXXX account many years ago, before I retired, and it was included in a debt consolidation program I joined called XXXX, XXXX. When my consolidation was all paid off, XXXX sent me a letter, which, unfortunately, I no longer have. I never thought that this many years later I would receive a letter about it. To the best of my recollection, my XXXX account was completed around 2006 or so. I honestly can not remember, but it was completed a long time ago. XXXX XXXX is trying to collect over {$200.00} from me and I will tell you right now that I am not paying a dime. My account was paid in full by XXXX, XXXX and I have no open accounts with XXXX XXXX. I want XXXX XXXX to stop harassing me. I have already told them that I will NOT respond kindly, nor will I pay this debt that I have paid a long time ago.
