Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I received a letter from LexisNexis stating that I disputed a Bankruptcy on my consumer report for inaccuracies. They reported that they verified this Bankruptcy matching it to my address and social security number through an electronic system called PACER. Now with that being said I have a right to privacy under the privacy act of 1974 which clearly states that you can't report any information about me from a system of records without my written authorization or consent. I never gave such consent to LexisNexis, meaning they are violating the law. They even admitted to this blunder in the letter they submitted to the CFPB. PACER is the system of record for bankruptcies. Please be advised that while the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts may not provide information directly to consumer reporting agencies, bankruptcies are a matter of public record and can be obtained from PACER, which is an electronic public access service that allows users to obtain case and docket information online from federal courts. This service, offered by the Federal Judiciary to allow public access to court information, provides up-to-date information about the status of bankruptcy matters, including information about the parties involved in a case.
