Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Deposits and withdrawals

Consumer Complaint: Dear Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, I am writing to report a recent incident of identity theft and unauthorized withdrawal from my Chase bank checking account. On XX/XX/, while reviewing my account information, I discovered that {$2900.00} was withdrawn from my account by someone. I immediately contacted Chase Bank customer service and reported the incident. The representative, XXXX or XXXX, confirmed that the withdrawal took place at the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, New York, on XX/XX/XXXX XXXX XXXX at XXXX and was processed by Banker XXXX XXXX. I request your assistance in this matter, as I have already reported the theft to Chase Bank and I am eager to receive an immediate response from them. Not only do I request a refund of the stolen funds, but I also require a letter from the bank confirming the crime and cooperating with the XXXX, who will not take any financial crime cases without such a letter. I can share all relevant documentation, including the bank statement showing the unauthorized transactions and my correspondence with Chase Bank customer service. I would greatly appreciate your prompt attention to this matter and any assistance you can provide in resolving this issue and protecting my personal and financial information from further harm. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely,

Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Cashing a check

Consumer Complaint: I have a mortgage account for my property in XXXX XXXX with XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX and have opened an Escrow Account with them. In XX/XX/XXXX, I closed my Escrow Account and the Customer Support at XXXX XXXX said they will return the remaining balance to me via a check, which amounts to {$9400.00}. XXXX XXXX have confirmed that the check have been mailed out since XX/XX/XXXX. On Monday XX/XX/XXXX, I called XXXX they informed me that my check was cashed to a JP Morgan Chase Bank Account. I never received the check hence I did not endorse it and cashed it in. XXXX XXXX said that someone may have stolen my mail, forged my endorsement and cashed my check to a Chase account. Chase was at fault for letting the fraudster to cash my check with forged signature. XXXX XXXX sent me a copies of the cashed check mentioned above. I took the check and went to a Chase Bank branch to inform them of this scam that has happened and to let them know that a scammer has an account at Chase bank and that they processed stolen property with a fraudulent endorsement. The Chase rep apologized, confirmed that indeed the fraudster 's account is processing the check, but said nothing they could do to cancel the check till XXXX XXXX filed a dispute. After a lot of effort working with XXXX XXXX, on XX/XX/XXXX, XXXX XXXX sent me a letter confirmed that they have filed a dispute with Chase, but the investigation might take after 9 months due to expected delay from Chase. In my view, Chase allowed the fraudster to cash the check, did not block it timely, now they are taking a very long time ( 9 months ) for this simple investigation ( matching my signature with the fraudster or directly call the fraudster to confront them should be sufficient ). I went to the Chase branch with this information and call the customer service line multiple times explaining the situation, but got no help and these reps said there were nothing they can do to help. Another problem I faced with Chase is that since this is not happening with my own Chase account, but the unpermitted check cash-in the fraudster 's Chase account. Everybody I talked at Chase ( either from call center or at the branch ) refused to help, I have to repeat this nightmare each time I talked to a new person trying to get help, spending countless of hours. I need this money to be refunded as soon as possible. I can not imagine why a bank will let someone cash a check in my name without my approval and refuse to address the problem timely. This is straight illegal. Please look at the uploaded document for police report, fraudulent check with fake signature, and letter from XXXX XXXX

Issue: Problem caused by your funds being low

Subissue: Bounced checks or returned payments

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I deposited a check in the amount of {$10000.00} through the Chase Mobil App. I received a confirmation of the successful deposit of the check, followed by the email from chase online banking through the secured portal the following day, on XX/XX/XXXX. The email instructed that check is beeing reviewd and that the funds will be available on XX/XX/XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX, Chase withdrew {$10000.00} from my checking account, alleging that the check was altered/fictitious and resulting in a negative balance in my checking account. XXXX XXXX, who wrote me the check, confirmed that she wrote this check to me in her written statement, the check was not altered or previously deposited. There was no mutual agreement that this check will be voided or destroyed by me. The check was not altered by any means since it was given to me as a payment for the her rent and living expenses. I have been trying to resolve this with my bank since XX/XX/XXXX. No resolution as of XX/XX/XXXX.

Issue: Closing an account

Subissue: Funds not received from closed account

Consumer Complaint: I received a message on XXXX of a XXXX XXXX XXXX and she contacted me regarding a post I made on XXXX. She said if I wanted a mural of that post and I said yes. To do so I had to give her my username and password of my bank account and she said that I could trust her because one of the people she did it to also trusted her. I gave it to her and she deposited numerous checks to my account. The next day my checking account was in overdraft and I told her what she did and she denied that she had any part in that. She told me to buy her an XXXX gift card with an amount of {$500.00}. I knew something was off since the XXXX gift cards are only used for purchases of XXXX products. I didnt buy the gift card. She said that she could fix my overdraft account problem by depositing {$4000.00} in the checking account I have but only by giving her my debit card number. I didnt trust her so I decided to block her and since then she has been blocked. After that I have contacted my bank and they said that they were going to investigate further. I decided to call today because I got an email saying that my new account was locked due to suspicious activity. They said that since there was a bounced check in my old checking account the department team that deals with these cases they decided that my relationship with the bank would be terminated. I asked them about the balance of my closed checking account and they said that it was in XXXX but when I called last week they said that I did have a balance and it would be sent to my mailing address through a cashiers check in 3-5 days.

Issue: Fraud or scam

Subissue:

Consumer Complaint: At XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX, I receive a call from XXXX. It is one of the board numbers listed on the XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX Sheriff Office XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. I miss the call but check the voicemail they left. It said " yes this message is for XXXX ( my name ) ... this is XXXX XXXX XXXX from XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX Sheriff Department... you can reach me at field device number ... that number is XXXX " When I check the missed call was in fact listed on the Sheriff Office website, I call back at the XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX Time. This person, supposedly XXXX XXXX XXXX, answers my call and explains that I missed a court appearance and was being held in contempt of court. The case materials for jury duty were served in-person. When I said that I did not receive, he said that my matter would be processed as DNR ( Did Not Receive ). Then he advised that per the Judge orders, I have 72 hours to be criminally charged and arrested or be processed in a civil proceeding. The civil proceeding would involve a payment of bail money ( refundable ) for {$3000.00} for contempt and another {$3000.00} for XXXX ( do not remember what it stands for ). He also said that per procedure I can not hang up and talk to anyone else. If I do not comply, I would be deemed as absconding and my XXXX XXXX license would also be tarnished and potentially lose my employment prospects as well. Then he transferred me over a XXXX XXXX who walked me through to process the payment via XXXX, a funds transfer service that most bank apps use. They suggested that due to COVID, procedures were updated and they could take payments over the phone. I could not believe I was doing it. As there was limit, I ended up processing 2 payments, one for {$5000.00} ( from Chase Bank ) and another for {$3500.00} ( from XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX ). They put me on-hold for several minutes on the phone and then said that the subpoena has been lifted and I need to an additional sum. This was for finger-printing analysis as the case materials that were supposedly served to me in-person ( that they had mentioned earlier above ) were fraudulently received by someone else on my behalf. So this XXXX XXXX suggested I use XXXX XXXX. When XXXX XXXX blocked the transfer, it occurred to me that it is very likely to be a scam. So I reported it to XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX dispatched a police officer to make the above notes. I am not sure why he asked if I wanted to press charges or not. He also advised that the likelihood of this scammer being caught is low. While I have reported this to the banks that I use, I am very skeptical if all this would make any difference let alone recover the money. Chase Bank said that while the money transferred was in response to the scam, they may not be able to recover it. And I thought they had insurance coverage or somehow be able to reverse the transfer since I reported it right away. As a law-abiding citizen, I truly believe I did the right thing to cooperate with law enforcement but lost money in the process. I hope the banks to cooperate and hold someone accountable somehow for what happened to me.

Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Banking errors

Consumer Complaint: JPMorgan Chase Bank, NA Check dated XX/XX/2022 for the amount of {$4200.00} made out to an individual and signed by myself was fraudulently cashed by someone else. Chase bank apparently lacks the security needed to prevent checks from being cashed by just about anyone. The check was not altered in anyway. The payor name was not altered. Someone cashed this check and it wasn't the payor. All the transactional information is available, yet 3 months later and multiple inquires, Chase has not tracked down the funds nor have I been reimbursed for the fraud Chase bank is responsible for.

Issue: Problem with a lender or other company charging your account

Subissue: Money was taken from your account on the wrong day or for the wrong amount

Consumer Complaint: I was contacted by an XXXX merchant by the name of XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX, in response to a link I clicked on to get more information on business funding. I was told that I qualified for a business line of credit in the amount of {$26000.00}. XXXX XXXX ( XXXX ) then put his XXXX on the phone by the name of XXXX XXXX XXXX ) who proceeded to further explain the details of line credit stating, It would require closing fees in the amount of {$16000.00} and I would pay that on what he called a performance loan. This was to insure my company would be reported to XXXX XXXX XXXX and it was standard procedure for these types of credit line contracts. He then proceeded to state that the performance contract could be paid off early and that it needed 3 days for the reporting to convey, however, I could pay it in full as of XX/XX/XXXX. So they proceeded to send me a contract via XXXX with XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX agreement in its title. I was told to sign this agreement after transferring at least {$20000.00} into my business checking account, also while simultaneously signing the Line Credit agreement from XXXX XXXX XXXX in the amount of {$490000.00}. So I proceeded to transfer the Funds from my XXXX account to my chase personal to by Chase business. In completion of transferring {$19000.00} into my business checking account, XXXX contacted the representative from XXXX Funds to proceed with the final interview. XXXX called back stating he received my contracts for the Line of Credit and the " XXXX XXXX '' and to be on the lookout for a phone call from a XXXX number. See next paragraph Someone From underwriting XXXX XXXX called me from a ( XXXX ) number stating this was an official interview to finalize the contract. He continued to ask me a series of questions about my identity and ownership of the company. He finalized the review with an official audio recording and said congratulations. It is very apparent that the two were in sync because as soon as I hung up the phone XXXX called and said everything went well, he also stated I would receive the money in the Morning XX/XX/23 in the amount of {$1400.00} and pay the balance of the contract in full in the amount of {$29000.00} by Monday morning XX/XX/23. I received a wire of XXXX on XX/XX/23 from XXXX funding into my chase account, then waited until Monday morning to wire out the {$29000.00}. That morning ( XX/XX/23 ) I called XXXX who sent over wiring instructions via email to pay off the loan in full. He confirmed with me that they received the receipt of the wire and that he also was able to get me approved for a bigger credit line ( {$990000.00} ). He proceeded to tell me that I would need to do another performance loan in the amount of {$22000.00} which would total a net {$12000.00} to close on the additional funds. I was very uneasy at this point and did not want to proceed. However, XXXX was very persistent in stating his investors would be spooked if we went back on the original amount. He said the only way to close the credit line at this point was to do the performance contract. This time the Purchase Agreement came from XXXX XXXX XXXX. In the amount of {$22000.00}. He stated they would send me XXXX and I could pay that off by Wednesday and any all fees would be credited back on the line of credit. I signed the Contract for Purchase Agreement and the New Recvised contract for the Line of credit and received a call from XXXX to interview me for the new funding amount. I completed the questioning process and he stated I would be funded in the morning XX/XX/23. I called back after giving it some thought and told the guy from the XXXX to cancel the Purchase agreement. He then told me he would waive fees if I just sent the money back tomorrow as " he would be doing me a fovor. '' These Guys have my social, drivers lic, Bank statements, address, and all kinds of other personal information.

Issue: Improper use of your report

Subissue: Credit inquiries on your report that you don't recognize

Consumer Complaint: According to my most recent credit report, this company is currently reporting to the credit bureaus that I applied for credit with their organization 2 times. I did not grant this company authorization to review my credit report. Furthermore, I have an active fraud alert on my credit report. The FCRA requires that upon seeing a fraud alert on a consumers file, you must take steps to verify my identity and confirm that I am in fact the person making the application for credit. I was never contacted by your company at any time. The presence of this inquiry is adversely affecting my credit report and is impeding my ability to obtain necessary credit. Time is of the essence so I would greatly appreciate a response from you within thirty ( 30 ) days. Please mail me a letter indicating your intention to delete the inquiries.
