Consumer Complaint: I am a victim of Identity Theft and Fraud and had someone open several accounts using my personal information and then default on those accounts which are reported on my credit reports. I filed a police report, submitted a FTC Fraud Affidavit, and disputed the fraudulent accounts with all three credit reporting agencies on XX/XX/2023. I included the police report and the fraud affidavit with the disputes which included, two different XXXX XXXX accounts, a XXXX XXXX account, a XXXX XXXX XXXX account, a XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX account, a XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX account, a XXXX XXXX loan, and a collection account from XXXX XXXX that was attempting to collect a debt from a fraudulent XXXX account. I also sent each of these companies the police report and fraud affidavit letting them know the accounts were a result of identity theft. I was under the impression that they had 30 days to respond to my disputes however, neither XXXX XXXX, Equifax or XXXX responded and when I checked my credit report the fraudulent accounts were still reporting. So, on XX/XX/2023 I decided to send my disputes again along with the police report and fraud affidavit to all three credit reporting agencies asking them to remove the fraudulent accounts from my credit report because they were hurting my credit and preventing me from being financially stable. I did get a response back from XXXX XXXX shortly after asking for more information which I had already provided including my Driver 's License, Social, and Address Verification. I again waited another 45 days and got no responses or confirmation in the mail that the accounts were deleted from the three credit reporting agencies. I checked my credit report and noticed that some of the accounts had been deleted. However, they were deleted from one bureau but not the other two or they were deleted from two bureaus but not one. It made no sense that one bureau would delete an account and the others wouldn't or two bureaus would delete the account but not the third. So, on XX/XX/2023 I decided to dispute the fraudulent accounts that were still reporting asking them how they verified these accounts and to send me documentation they used to verify the accounts which is what I read on they are required to do if requested. Again, I included the police report, the fraud affidavit and all of my verification documents and this time waited 60 days for a response and received nothing. I don't understand how these credit reporting agencies can just ignore you and not respond when you have ID Theft and fraudulent activity which is putting me at risk and causing me financially instability. I checked my credit reports, and these fraudulent accounts are still reporting, and I don't know what to do other than ask the CFPB to step in and investigate the credit reporting agencies. They are blatantly violating my rights that are supposed to be protected by Federal Law. I'm not sure how they're allowed to get away with this gross negligence.
