Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt was result of identity theft
Consumer Complaint: XXXX XXXX acct # XXXX. For several years they have tried to collect a debt for a fraudulent account opened in Illinois. I have never been there much less lived there. I have endured collection agencies and submitted their so called fraud packet. Convergent Outsourcing is their debt collector. All say I either have to pay or submit a fraud packet. I have twice. I just got off the phone with a CSR based out of the XXXX. In frustration, I asked for a supervisor. He advised one was not available and simply hung up. Is this reasonable? I am trying to get a mortgage and this 200.00 fraud account is holding me up. Do I just have to pay because XXXX is big and can simply bully their way to getting money? For the record, I have XXXX other XXXX accounts that have always been in good standing.

Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/XXXX I received a letter from Convergent Outsourcing , Inc. attempting to collect a debt on behalf of XXXX. I only own one account with XXXX that I opened on XX/XX/XXXX and it's always been on autopay and current. When comparing the account on the collection letter and the sole open account I have knowledge of with XXXX did not match. I responded to the collection agency via mail in XXXX after the second letter from the collection agency and after calling XXXX and confirming there were no other accounts open in my name with my Personal Information. I sent a letter to the collection agency bringing that to their attention. They responded back stating that they will continue to collect and that I should contact XXXX instead to resolve my collection. I reached out to XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX and provided them with the account number on the collections letter and they confirmed that my social security did not match the account, the service address was not the same either, and the phone numbers were not the same. Without the collections agency verifying this information, they put the negative remark on my credit report and send the collections letter to my address. Not only jeopardizing my credit but also giving me private information of 3rd parties. I need this investigated.

Consumer Complaint: XX/XX/2021, I signed up for XXXX XXXX, but learned the service would not work in my area. I immediately cancelled. The phones came and I returned them unopened. They didn't reimburse me the {$98.00} for XXXX that was promised. I received a bill from them dated XX/XX/2021 for {$220.00}, but when I tried to call the # XXXX, they couldn't talk to me because I didn't know a phone # and pin #. I received a phone call from Convergent Outsourcing XXXX stating the mini-Miranda and asking me to pay {$220.00} for XXXX. I told XXXX XXXX the story and she transferred me to XXXX where again I could not talk to anyone. I called Convergent XXXX and asked for a supervisor, who ( XXXX XXXX ) again quoted the XXXX. I told her my story. She said she will have XXXX call me, and also said they had auto drafted {$98.00} om XXXX and XXXX, meaning they now owe me about {$300.00}. They called, and said they needed to transfer me, but nobody answered the phone. I called Convergent and asked for the manager, and got XXXX XXXX again, who quoted the XXXX XXXX. She stated they are just pre-collecting and I have to straighten it out with XXXX. If it is pre-collections why are they calling in attempt to collect a debt. Why is the same person posing as supervisor and manager. Why won't they resolve a dispute.
