Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Don't agree with the fees charged

Consumer Complaint: I have been paying my loans for now 26 years on a my 25 yr loan only to be told I owe XXXX still. Fedloan is a predatory lender by definition offering loans to unemployed students with no credit based on future or potential earnings. My loan was NEVER with them. I have repeatedly asked for official copies with my official signature which they will not provide. They then send an email ( which I provided ) saying its in my online acct. I have never signed up for nor signed into an online acct. Now during suspension by the govt I get mailed copy saying i OWE {$1400.00} to cover the interest for the quarter ( my original monthly pymt was {$130.00} ). This is ridiculous. I paid my debt with my original servicer and am now being harassed by a company stock piling interest with no real option to working out a contractual deal if there is even a need for one. I am also part of a lawsuit against XXXX XXXX XXXX who took my loan on a forgiveness program.. again I have never had a loan with Fedloan Servicing and am tired of being treated like a piece of garbage by this unethical company

Issue: Communication tactics

Subissue: You told them to stop contacting you, but they keep trying

Consumer Complaint: For the past 10 years I have paid FedLoan {$710.00} per month, on time without any delays or missing payments. Every month they would email me reminding me that my payment was due. I called them and asked them why they need to keep reminding me when my account is in full compliance, they told me they would stop, but the reminders did not stop. When I talked to them asking them why they were not forgiving any of my debt after working in a XXXX XXXX school for more than 5 years, they told me that I was signed up for the wrong forgiveness program. Again, completely misguided by them. When my loan was very nearly paid off earlier this year I did not get a bill in the mail as usual, but instead I got a Paid In Full letter. I was relieved, but then the harassing phone calls and emails began again, telling me that my payment was late, and a collection agency would be called, even though it had been less than a month past due date. When I would call them I would need to talk to several people due to the rudeness of the people attending to my account. FedLoan has been completely unhelpful, discourteous, and unprofessional in assisting me over the past ten years of payments. It has been a terrible experience ; the worst ten years of my life. FedLoan is a greedy, shameful institution that I recommend people stay clear of.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Problem with customer service

Consumer Complaint: My federal student loans are currently being serviced by FedLoans, and I am participating in the Federal public service loan forgiveness ( PSLF ) program. I am currently a XXXX XXXX in a 4-year program at a PSLF-eligible XXXX. Since XX/XX/XXXX, I have made monthly payments and therefore at this time should have a total of 48 of 120 PSLF-eligible months/payments at the end of these 4 years ( XX/XX/XXXX ) The number of PSLF-eligible months/payments reflected on my account with FedLoans does not reflect this. During my public service ( XXXX at a XXXX XXXX XXXX ) I also enrolled in a XXXX XXXX and received additional loans for tuition, and somehow this took me out of the PSLF program even though I was told it should not affect it and I was told when it showed up wrong that it would be fixed by multiple agents I spoke to. It was never fixed and this was in XXXX. I was even told that based on my income at the time, my payments should be $ XXXX/month so even though they hadn't documented those months they could go back and add them. I tried several times to speak with their customer service and was told that a recount could be performed. However, this has not be rectified. I am going to be continuing to work in public service after residency graduation in XXXX, and I have XXXX little children and tremendous student debt. I am doing everything I need to do to qualify for this program - please can you help me recount the missing months from my PSLF record.

Issue: Incorrect information on your report

Subissue: Account status incorrect

Consumer Complaint: I have 2 Federal Student loans that are showing delinquent payments on my credit report from XX/XX/XXXX - XX/XX/XXXX. These accounts were General Forbearance from XX/XX/XXXX - XX/XX/XXXX. These accounts should not show this incorrect information as it is causing me issues in obtaining a first time home buyer mortgage.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: I recently contacted via email to request from American education services ( AES ) XXXX XXXX asking if I could change my electronic monthly payment from the XXXX of the month to the XXXX of each month due to the fact that I am retired and my income in monthly social security fund that I receive I. The second Wednesday of each month. Unfortunately the second Wednesday is sometimes after the XXXX making having the funds available for my loan payment inconvenience. AES responded via email on XX/XX/XXXX granting the payment due date. My problem is that they also decided to recalculate my payments from {$190.00} to {$120.00}. This action would prolong the completion of paying off my loan and paying interest rates. I have been paying off this loan since 2002 and need to be finished as soon as possible. I simply want to continue paying the {$190.00}. I called their customer service and spoke to both a representative and then his supervisor. I was told by both that they could not change my payment due date without the recalculating of my payment. My only option would be to contact them each month and adjust the payment upward. I found this to be a thinly veiled way to exploit me and for them to squeeze more money out of me. My other option was to leave my payment due date of the XXXX to keep my payments of {$190.00}. I opted to keep the payment of the XXXX despite the constant stress this causes me. I do not appreciate the lack of professionalism and customer service shown me in this situation and would greatly appreciate your help

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: Every! Single! Time! I attempt to receive information from Fedloan servicing it is incorrect or simply " unavailable ''. I have been correctly and consistently repaying my student loans since I began payoff several years ago. Every time I submit my ECF form to update my payments, my estimated eligibility date is moved and my payment count is incorrect. I have fought with them on no less that ten occasions regarding my payment count and I still believe it to be incorrect but it is simply their word against mine. When I filled out my first ECF, after paying my loans for something like six years, I was told 2 of my payments counted on two of my loans and 15 counted on my other loans. This itself doesn't make sense because my payments have always included all loans. After disputing with several agents, all of whom couldn't give a rats about my problem, they updated my count. I still don't believe it to be correct, but at least its consistent across the board. This month, I have faithfully re-submitted my ECF for the year, and despite the payment history literally showing on my account, they updated my payment count to 7 ( out of 12 months ) and pushed my eligibility date out by 7 months. I believe the error is due to the fact that when I applied for forgiveness ( knowing fully I would be denied, in order to apply for TEPSLF [ what a XXXX system! ] ) they updated my count. They updated my count in XX/XX/XXXX but the letter attached only counted payments through XX/XX/XXXX : XX/XX/XXXX to XX/XX/XXXX is 7 months, so that would mean XXXX-XX/XX/XXXX has been overlooked. Additionally, I am aware that I have had several years of payments under the Graduated repayment plan, which I know and understand does not count toward PSLF. However, Fedloan is unable/unwilling to give me that count, and will only tell me I am denied under TEPSLF. They will not give me an estimated TEPSLF eligibility date including those payments. So essentially, I need to guess at when I've reached 120, in order to request TEPSLF. If I am off my one month, my TEPSLF will be denied, and I will not know how far off I was. I am so tired of this company and would do anything to go back to XXXX. I understand this is a nationwide problem and this company has failed in every aspect of its responsibility. I don't know why the world will not stand up to this issue, and rescind the responsibility of this program from Fedloan. They can not handle this, nor do I believe they want to. For the love of God, please help us. We are desperate.
