Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled
Consumer Complaint: Thank you in advance for your time and attention to this matter. I am writing because I have met all the requirements for loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program ( PSLF ). For the last ten years, I have been a social worker at an employer that qualifies under PSLF. PHEAA/FedLoan Servicing have processed payments for 9 out of 10 years ( 108 out of 120 eligible payments ) and acknowledged that my employer qualifies. As of XX/XX/2021, I have submitted a certification to PHEAA/FedLoan Servicing that I have made all 120 of the payments required to process my loan forgiveness and forgive the remaining balance of my loans. Since that time ( ie for the last ~5 months ), my application for loan forgiveness has been in limbo with PHEAA/FedLoan servicing. I follow up regularly through various available channels but am never able to get more than perfunctory answers to questions about when my loan will be processed for forgiveness. The most I am told, repeatedly, for months now, is that PHEAA/FedLoan Servicing needs to verify my employment with a qualified employer. However, as mentioned, I have been at the same employer for years, and PHEAA/FedLoan Servicing has, in each year except this last one, timely verified my employment and confirmed that the employer is qualified. As a result of PHEAA/FedLoan Servicings refusal to certify my most recent year of employment, I am administratively stuck on 108 out of the 120 eligible payments. I am particularly distressed because it is clear that PSLF applicants are being processed on a regular basis these days, but my application is being left behind for unclear reasons. I have fulfilled my obligations and responsibilities towards loan forgiveness under the PSLF Program over ten strenuous years in public service. I am hoping that you can use the influence of your office to help push my application through. Thank you again. Sincerely, XXXX XXXX

Consumer Complaint: Fed Loans acknowledged receipt of my Public Service Loan Forgiveness ( PSLF ) Employment Certification & Application Form on XX/XX/2021. On XX/XX/2021, Fed Loans requested additional time to review my Certification and Application. To date, Fed Loans has not provided any additional updates on my request. When I previously filed a PSLF Employment Certification & Application on XX/XX/2021, my Certification was processed on XX/XX/2021, less than one week after filing said Application. The current length of time for Certification is therefore unreasonable. I would like Fed Loans to approve my current Certification and Application.

Consumer Complaint: Hello, My loans were transferred over to Fedloan ( a process that took more than 8 months ). Regardless, the wualifying payments on my account are inaccurate. Currently XXXX payments are listed as nonqualifying, most are listed as late payments. These " late payments '' were paid on time to my last student lam servicer, so it is obvious that there is an administratove error. I would live some assistance getting this issue resolved. Thank you

Consumer Complaint: I am currently enrolled in the Public Service Loan Forgiveness ( PSLF ) program. I have submitted my employment certification ( have worked at the same XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX as XXXX XXXX for over 6 years ) and been rejected as I recently submitted for an updated count of my qualified payments. The last payments that were certified were from XX/XX/2020 though my employment remains current. The last time my employment was recertified was as a result of a similar complaint I have lodged with the CFPB which calculated only through XX/XX/2020. This is a recurring issue for Fed Loan Servicing. I demand my employment be certified as myself and my employer have been instructed using the tools and existing submissions of employment certification that we have made. The direct instruction and support given to us by the FedLoan Servicing working on behalf of the Dept of Education is inadequate.

Consumer Complaint: Dear CFPB, I am a Federal Student Loan borrower with FedLoan Servicing. I have contacted FedLoan and disputed specific ineligible payments, XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX - XX/XX/XXXX, XX/XX/XXXX - XX/XX/XXXX, also XX/XX/XXXX-XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX - XX/XX/XXXX ( did not qualify on my subsidized loan but did count on my unsub loan ) and they, FedLoan Servicing never responded. I have never made late payments, yet it says I have 73 ineligible payments. If some count, they all should. I believe this error is because the loans have been sold/moved to different companies along the way. Initially, I was with a previous loan servicer, and now FedLoan Servicing. I am at a loss of what to do. They keep giving me the run-around and according to my calculations of payments I should have been done making payments toward PSLF. I have been an educator for 12 years with PSLF being my ultimate goal. This, what seems to be a never-ending run around for the last two plus years, has taken a toll on me mentally and made it impossible to take different steps towards my future and has brought unnecessary stress to my family. This has caused I am asking you the CFPB to contact FedLoan Servicing and get FedLoan to fix the ones that should have been fixed.

Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt was result of identity theft
Consumer Complaint: This alleged debt is fraudulent as I am the natural person, consumer in fact, and entered into a consumer credit transaction. Pursuant to 15 U.S. Code 1692j ( a ) It is unlawful to design, compile, and furnish any form knowing that such form would be used to create the false belief in a consumer that a person other than the creditor of such consumer is participating in the collection of or in an attempt to collect a debt such consumer allegedly owes such creditor, when in fact such person is not so participating. I in fact extended you credit as the Creditor/Natural person and you gave me a loan which isnt defined under Truth in Lending or FDCPA, which created an alleged debt. That is deceptive behavior, fraud, and punishable under federal law. I am not participating in the collection of any alleged debt. Subissue: Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Consumer Complaint: American Education Services, has not allowed me to reduce my payments, release my cosigner, temporary postpone my payments, or make my payments online. Ive been told that I have exhausted my forbearance options, when I still have years of payments to make. Ive also been told that I can't release my co signer since I've used forbearance on my loan. I also can no longer make my payments online, I can only send payments through the mail, which will cause my loans to be late, causing them to contact my cosigner and send letters as well. They have given me no options or breaks, and I think this is completely unfair. Ive paid well over the amount I owe in interest alone.
