Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: Prior to the pandemic, I was making my payments regularly and I was able to pay more than the monthly amount due. I asked if I could make principal only payments in addition to my monthly payment and waa told that this was not possible. This ks absolute nonsense and seems to me to be a way to keep individuals in perpetual debt. By making regular and principal only payments, I can pay my debt off faster, but this is not possible with FedLoan.

Subissue: Account status incorrect

Consumer Complaint: All students loans accounts were consolidated as one, and still to this date is showing multiple accounts ( 16 accounts ) as open delinquent with no balance on them. I reached out ( called ) XXXX to confirm why those accounts would still showed all like that and they told me to send mail evidence. Last month ( XXXX ) I send a letter to Fed Loan directly to inform the discrepancies and they just send a letter confirming there were no pending balance, but have not done anything else.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: My account with AES Success had zero behind payments and I had just sent in extra money above what I owed in XXXX and the money was taken from my bank. Nearly {$1900.00}. I only owe {$360.00} a month. And I overpaid on purpose to try and finally get closer to paying my loan off. On XX/XX/XXXX my monthly direct deposit for the normal {$360.00} was also cashed and collected. On XX/XX/XXXX, they sent my account to collections!!!!!! AES confirmed for me on the phone that my account was placed into collections for defaulting on payments and as a result they closed the account, and reported it to the credit bureaus. They also confirmed they see the payments were successful and I didnt have any past due amounts owed. I was promised a print out of my entire account payment history along with my current balance after demanding it multiple times even though they kept trying to talk me out of requesting it and she kept saying her computer was slow that day and unless I had all day to stay on the phone with her I probably should just let it go. Let it go?!?!?! I was finally assured itd get a copy in the mail within 7-10 business days. Today is XX/XX/XXXX and I have yet to receive that. They said they cant tell me who owns my loan now. We have no idea who ends up getting your loan. So, we just cant give you that information. So then WHY- just yesterday- on XX/XX/XXXX, did AES take my $ XXXX monthly direct deposit out of my account!! If my account is in collections- with an unknown lender - and my account with AES is closed - than HOW are they still taking my money!!! How can I contact the new lender if I am being refused to know the name and contact number of- them. And how, if I cant change or stop payments or even see if it was applied to a balance I have no access to view, am I supposed to fix this?! I told them on XX/XX/XXXX they made a mistake. They told me I could consider disputing it but we cant guarantee if or when that would be handled. I disputed it with them IMMEDIATELY- while still on the phone. They admitted to me they can see my payment history and that I didnt have any past due payments on my account I owed to warrant sending this to a debt collector. I got a letter in the mail telling me my dispute is denied but I can send them PROOF of me not owing money past due. How am I supposed to do that when they have shut off access to my account and refuse to send me my payment history in writing!!!!!!!!!! This has to be illegal?!!! You people should be sick with grief over the REAL DAMAGE you are causing people!!!!!

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: I have multiple payments on my account that are determined to be ineligible toward PSLF due to the reported reason of 'You Do Not Have a Bill Due For this Payment Period. ' However, PSLF does not state that a bill needs to be due, but instead that 120 payments are required to be made toward the loan. I have 2 federal loans - a direct unsub loan & a direct sub loan. I get one bill each month that includes both loans. One of the 'ineligible " payments is dated XX/XX/XXXX with the above reason - 'You Do Not Have a Bill Due For this Payment Period. ' However, the payment counted toward my direct sub loan but did not count toward my direct unsub loan, despite both having on ly 1 bill that includes both loans. Two of my ineligible payments from XX/XX/XXXX continue to state 'Pending Manual Review ' despite it being 8yrs later. Attached is the information for my ineligible payments as well as documentation demonstrating payments, despite reports of not having bills due for the period. My loans have traded hands multiple times and so I do not have my full history of payments ; however the ineligible payment in and of itself demonstrates that a payment was made. Thank you for any help in this matter.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2021, I received a letter from FedLoan Servicing dated XX/XX/2021 stating that my request for direct debit has been approved. In the letter ( which is attached to this complaint as XXXXXXXX ), there was a column referencing funding account that I was not able to understand. This column has 2 numbers and I do not know what those numbers mean. I am unable to determine whether this means my bank account is correctly set up for Direct Debit or not. I attempted to call and email FedLoan Servicing to no avail. I have attached a copy of the email I sent on XX/XX/2021, which is entitled FedLoan call about funding account.rtf.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: I have been working for the same company since XXXX, which is considered a qualifying employer under PSLF. I was employed full time as a XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX and was told that I should put the loans on forbearance during my residency, and I know now that that was bad advice. I started paying my student loans after I got my first full time job out of residency in XX/XX/XXXX, the first payment was in XXXX. I made 17 payments total towards the PSLF program before getting another full time job in XX/XX/XXXX. When I got this new position ( the program I currently work for ), I filed employment verification and was told my payments do not count. The position was for 32 hour/week with full time benefits. I was told that because the company does not consider me " full time '', I can not count my payments. The company gives all employees working more than 30 hours/week full time benefits, and the PSLF " full time '' definition is more than 30 hours/week. I still work for the same program now, and have changed positions recently but still work 32 hours/week. My original loan amount was roughly {$90000.00} and the most recent loan information states I have paid over {$150000.00} in loans and interest. It is not fair that I continue to suffer with these payments. I have started a family and have continued to serve the vulnerable population through my work and get penalized for this technicality.

Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/XXXX, I requested a review of my payments that were eligible for XXXXSLF. I work for a Public School ( 16 years and counting ) with Consolidated Loans, with 127 payments made towards them. Only 17 are eligible?? I have requested the reasons why only to be told thats all that are eligible. I requested that the payments be reviewed only to be told that it would take months to perform this recount. I was told that it would take three months, now I being told that they do not know how long the counting will take?? It took me 10 min to tally up my count? With the new Federal Rules for PSLF/TPSLF ALL of my payments should be counted. I have ALL of the necessary credentials for forgiveness, and I can not understand how I only have 17 payments being applied to my forgiveness, ALL 127 payments, NOT even counting the 20 months in Federal Forbearance, which would put my count at 147 payments?! I expect full loan forgiveness as a result of this review of my payments.
