Issue: Written notification about debt
Subissue: Didn't receive enough information to verify debt
Consumer Complaint: I am writing in regards to the collection with Portfolio Recovery. They are trying to collect {$940.00} for XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX. I spoke to them on XX/XX/22 and I requested an itemized bill. Also, XXXX XXXX went out of business about 3 years ago. I spoke to a XXXX XXXX who said she would send verification. To this date, XX/XX/22, I have not received verification from them. I also called them again 2 weeks ago to request the verification. The representative argued with me and still has not sent proof that I owe this bill. I tried to dispute the item with XXXX and it came back saying that the case that the dispute investigation was done. I know I do not owe this bill. The collection agency has failed to provide me with proof. I want this to be removed from my credit record.

Consumer Complaint: Portfolio Recovery ( PRA ) stated that they hold all required license to do business. Upon my own research I found PRA does not have a collection agency license in NV. I have asked Portfolio Recovery several times to show their license as their right to conduct debt collection activity in NV and they have not. They just keep saying they " hold all required licenses ''. This is a blatant lie and misrepresentation of facts in an attempt to collect a debt which is a violation of the FDCPA. Also pursuant to XXXX XXXX a debt collection license is required to operate and conduct the business of a collection agency. Portfolio Recovery is in noncompliance with FDCPA and NV state law. Covered persons are prohibited from engaging in any unfair, deceptive, or abusive act or practice '' in violation of the CFPA. 12 U.S.C. 5531 and 5536 ( a ) ( 1 ) ( B ).

Subissue: Their investigation did not fix an error on your report
Consumer Complaint: I recently checked my credit report and noticed an account with Portfolio Recovery reporting in which I had never opened so I sent Portfolio Recovery a debt validation and cease and desist letter on XXXX. I then filed a FTC report. Portfolio Recovery has been negligent and has not responded or validated this fraudulent account or stopped the negative reporting to the consumer reporting agencies. This has caused my reputation great harm. I never signed a contract with Portfolio Recovery or authorized them to share my information with third parties. Portfolio Recovery is in violation of the 15 USC 1692g ( b ) because they are still reporting this negative account even though they haven't validated the debt. I have filed a complaint with the attorney 's general and a complaint with the XXXX.
