Consumer Complaint: The company ( Portfolio Recovery Associates ) contacted me about an old credit card account that they had purchased ( XXXX XXXX ). I wrote them back stating that I would conditionally agree to pay the settlement amount if they responded on their own letterhead that they would delete the account from my credit reports if I made the payment. They complied and so did I. Now they have subtract the paid amount from the balance and are claiming that I still owe them money. I sent copies of the agreement, the money order receipt, and the certified mail receipt to both the company and the credit bureaus to verify and delete said account. The company ignored my request and the credit bureaus claim they verified I owed this debt despite our written agreement.
