Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt was result of identity theft
Consumer Complaint: This is a formal complaint lodged against PNC Bank. In XX/XX/2015, PNC Bank unjustly accused me of owing them a balance of {$2.00}, XXXX. Despite multiple attempts to prove to them I was not liable and had been a victim of identity fraud/ theft, they still attempted to hold me personally accountable. After much stress and litigation, PNC conceded, acknowledged that I was not responsible for the fraudulent activity, closed the case, and sent me documentation that any fees incurred or credit required would be dealt with, accordingly. Today, I went into another banking institution to apply for other financial products. The representative stated I had been 'flagged ' in their system due to " fraudulent activity '' associated with a previous PNC bank account and that my request had been denied, consequently. I went directly into a PNC branch to be put in contact with someone from their internal escalations department and was informed that despite, not having been liable for their formal claims against me, I would continue to be penalized by having this incident in my history for up to 5 years, when in fact, my name should've been removed from the flag/ fraud database as soon as it has been established, I was responsible, back in XX/XX/2015. Ive attached proof and correspondence received from PNC Bank to date. I am pushing to have my name removed from the fraud database. Thanking the bureau for its time and consideration of this matter.

Issue: Written notification about debt
Subissue: Didn't receive enough information to verify debt
Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/XXXX, I got a credit card from XXXX XXXX XXXX, now PNC bank. I used the credit card up to the limit of {$1500.00} and had trouble making the required payments. In XX/XX/XXXX I was requested to go to the bank and make a payment of {$630.00}. I understood this to be a reduced amount that if it were payed, the balance of the debt would be forgiven and the card closed out. I went to the bank and made that payment of {$630.00}. In XX/XX/XXXX, I got a summons to appear in court and was required to make additional payments of {$100.00} per month to pay down the outstanding debt. I thought the debt was paid already. So during the time frame of XX/XX/XXXX-XX/XX/XXXX, through a combination of payments and garnishment of my income tax returns, {$3600.00} was paid. Added to the prior payment made at the bank, I have paid {$4200.00} total against the original credit card debt of {$1500.00}. Given that I CAN NOT pay you any more, you are just adding to my stress level. Currently I am social security XXXX, diagnosed with XXXX XXXX, seeing a XXXX twice monthly. I am also supporting XXXX XXXX on my SS. I am XXXX, XXXX and will likely not work again. I barely have enough money to make it month to month. I am asking in fairness, that after paying {$4200.00} total, against a debt of {$1500.00} that any balance remaining be forgiven.

Issue: Managing an account

Consumer Complaint: I reported fraud on my checking account as soon as it happened. I told them I was a victim of ID theft and the charges on the account were fraudulent. I first disputed twice with PNC, then several times with the bbb they wouldn't take off the last amount. It started at XXXX and was sent to collections. I spoke with XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. She informed me the original amount was XXXX. And that's what should have been charged off. Somehow it became XXXX. I found out. There was a XXXX dollar charge off fee. Resulting in the increase. The charges on there were for 4 XXXX fees for returned items on purchases that weren't mine. The one charge was XXXX which was after a dispute credited back. Then XXXX for shoe buy on XX/XX/XXXX. This was credited then reversed this was not my charge. On XX/XX/XXXX another XXXX charge for XXXX XXXX which I didn't use. I never signed up with them or gave credit card information. This was a reversed charge. I should mention the XXXX was also XXXX XXXX. Which and the occurred XX/XX/XXXX. And the XXXX dollar fee for charge off was never credited. I worked with XXXX XXXX and he treaded me like I was the problem and wouldn't help me at all. He just went on about other credits and issues having nothing to do with this case. It's about XXXX they say I still owe.

Issue: Struggling to pay mortgage
Subissue:
Consumer Complaint: We have an FHA mortgage loan and the holder of the loan is PNC Bank. PNC Bank is refusing to review us for homeowner assistance options. They will not assign a point of contact to work with us, they will not consider any alternatives to help us get back into good standing on our mortgage other than full reinstatement. They won't even answer their phone when we call or return our call!! This whole problem started when a check bounced about a year ago and it led to multiple overdraft items and fees and ONE missed mortgage payment. We have tried the entire time since we missed the payment to fix this and PNC has been unreasonable and difficult the whole time and has obstructed the process. We are now facing a foreclosure sale date of XX/XX/XXXX. We have owned our house for nearly 10 years. My husband and I occupy the home with our XXXX children. My husband has worked as a XXXX for years and I currently work as a XXXX XXXX XXXX. We make enough money to pay our bills, but don't really have much of a rainy day fund. In XX/XX/XXXX our bank account became overdrawn. This led to multiple checks bouncing and multiple overdraft fees. It was a mess for a couple of weeks and as a result we missed our mortgage payment. The next month ( XX/XX/XXXX ) I called in to try and make my regular mortgage payment. They told me I had to pay two months worth of payments, plus late fees. I told the PNC agents I could pay the full payment for XX/XX/XXXX and half for XX/XX/XXXX and that we could work the rest of it out. Their agent refused to accept this arrangement, and told me there were no options other than full reinstatement. We continued to try and fix this matter over the next couple of months, but their agents would not work with us on some type of repayment plan or a way to bring down the delinquent balance by making payments and PNC continued to tack on late fees. We made an honest effort to fix this problem but feel we were stonewalled by PNC. Finally when we were 3 months behind we were told that we could apply for help through a modification. I began this process and sent the paperwork in over and over -- this must have gone on for six months. Eventually we received a letter stating that PNC was no longer going to continue the review because we had exceeded our options. The meaning of this was not explained, and we don't understand how we could be trying to fix this for 8 months and then after all that time are told there are no options for assistance. This minor problem, where I had the ability to get caught up and only be a partial payment behind has now turned into a disaster for our family. We are told that there is a foreclosure sale date on XX/XX/XXXX. We do not have an assigned point of contact, and when we call to try and get answers or talk to someone about our case no one picks up. This is wrong and not the way things are supposed to work. There are multiple assistance options available on a FHA loan that is backed by HUD and PNC is supposed to review us for ALL of these programs in order to determine what options are available. By dragging this out from 1 month to 4 months to 8 months and now 14 months PNC has put our backs against the wall

Issue: Trouble during payment process
Subissue:
Consumer Complaint: This is second complaint since PNC Mortgage does not seem to understand the unfair and illegal practices. My mortgage was bought by PNC from another company. Since that time it is been my worst nightmare. I have paid all payments on time through auto pay with my bank. Since the time of purchasing this home, it has required complete renovation due to the condition of the home when purchased. Because of this need, my loan was set up such that it required PMI. With PMI comes the escrow requirement. After allowing my insurance to lapse because they did not communicate with the insurance company during the hurricane, it took my footwork, etc to correct the problem. Since that incident, my insurance will no longer be paid through the escrow. A document was sent on XX/XX/XXXX indicating PNC will no longer pay the insurance. In addition, requested having the PMI and escrow removed. PNC insists because of the 80/20 rule they can not remove the PMI and escrow. Because of their insistence, I ordered an appraisal costing over {$400.00}. It was provided to PNC proving the value was significantly higher and therefore PMI and escrow should be removed. Now they are saying despite them holding me land locked, now they will order an appraisal but I will be required to pay {$500.00}. They will not accept the appraisal which already proves the issue yet would not order one until I paid to prove they were incorrect. With all that, they are saying I owe higher payments for escrow despite insurance will no longer be paid, taxes went down because home is now homestead and value was proven higher. PNC actually owes my money back due to excess escrow for insurance. This is a shortened version, this does not include the lost payments, unable to take " partial '' payments so good luck paying off a loan early with any variance to your payments. PNC should be investigated including governmental audits.

Consumer Complaint: My wife and I re-financed our 1st mortgage and home equity loan with PNC Bank, NA back in XX/XX/XXXX. PNC Bank had sent our one of their 3rd party appraisers to our home. The appraisal came in much too low and they indicated that we could go and get another independent appraisals done on our own. We did just that. Our licensed appraiser came in at {$55000.00} higher than the PNC Bank appraiser. PNC Bank will not accept our appraisal or at least meet us half way between both appraisals, thus we had to take out additional funds onto our home equity loan which in turn interest rate and the amount that we had to place on the HELOC. A recent home in the area just sold for almost exactly what our home appraiser indicated exactly what the price in the area would be. I am disputing the PNC appraisal and would like PNC Bank, NA to accept our appraisal and re-adjust the HELOC so that the funds go back onto the 1st mortgage and the lock in interest rate we have with them and lower the interest rate back to the original HELOC interest rate that we original had before we had to re-fi the HELOC. Both are at 3.5 % interest rate. We has sent numerous letter, e-mails and telephone calls to PNC Bank but they will not do anything about it. Appears to be unethical business practices on the part of XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. Thank you.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2017 I applied for a personal loan product with PNC. My application was denied at the time I had a XXXX XXXX Score been working with the same job for three years, not in debt, and only had one credit card. I called and complained, my application was wrongfully denied because to me I'm a well qualified applicant. After not receiving the answers I was looking for I proceeded to ask how to go about removing the inquiry as a goodwill gesture since my application wasn't approved they told me to send in a detailed letter which I did and to wait for a response. PNC never responded to me, I called in to see what was the pending status of my request. After calling and calling I was told that the inquiry wouldn't be removed even though I did exactly what they asked. Mentioned by the last CSR I spoke to even though I may be a qualified applicant because of the banks " Conservative views '' my application wasn't approved.
