Issue: Problem when making payments
Subissue:
Consumer Complaint: On more than one occasion, navy Federal offset a late payment from my checking account without proper authorization. Several times, the payment has been automatically collected by their automatic collections system. To be specific, the most recent offset occurred XXXX XX/XX/2018. It is my understanding that federal regulations protect me from these sort of collection processes. Also, I was assessed a late fee on XXXX XXXX which is when my loan is due and the payment was made in full on XXXX XXXX. I am under the impression that fees are not assessed until the 10th day after the due date. I went Into their branch located in XXXX XXXX, TX and the representative was not at all helpful. She told me that if my loan was late, they could take the money from my checking account. I told her that was not right and she said that they can take the money from any of my navy federal accounts but not from external accounts. Does not sound at all accurate to me! My attempts to resolve with the company have been unsuccessful, therefore I am left with no choice but to escalate. I thought that navy Federal had corrected its collection processes but apparently not. Thank you for any assistance in resolving this matter.

Consumer Complaint: On or around XX/XX/XXXX Navy Federal entered negative remarks on my credit report on a credit card debt they never validated coming from a legit loan. They never sent me anything proving the credit or loan came from their own capital or funds and risked something of value on their part. They seemed to either ignore or misunderstand the multiple validation letters sent to them since XXXX XXXX to present XX/XX/XXXX. As explained in my notice of dispute : THIS IS NOT A REQUEST FOR CONFIRMATION THAT YOU HAVE A COPY OF AN AGREEMENT OR COPIES OF STATEMENTS. THIS IS A DEMAND FOR PROOF THAT YOU HAVE THE REQUISITE KNOWLEDGE OF THE FACTS, AND THAT THE ALLEGED CREDITOR PROVIDED ADEQUATE CONSIDERATION AND INCURRED A FINANCIAL LOSS UNDER THE FULL & COMPLETE ORIGINAL AGREEMENT.

Consumer Complaint: I would like to start by saying that I have enjoyed a very professional and courteous relationship with Navy Federal Credit Union. The staff is usually available and excited to assist with any issues and or concerns. Unfortunately, in this instance I have spent countless hours on the phone with various people including a Supervisor regarding this issue with no resolution. Initially in XXXX we were approved for an auto loan with Navy Federal Credit Union. At the dealership we were extended an offer with 0 % APR. We accepted that deal and proceeded to purchase the vehicle. We then were going to refinance the loan with Navy Federal in XXXX and received an approval on XX/XX/XXXX The decision was made not to proceed with the refinance at that time. Navy Federal Credit Union was promptly contacted and advised of our decision. I was advised that the initial check from XXXX was going to be voided and that a subsequent check was going to be sent ; however due to us cancelling the loan it was never sent. Navy Federal Credit Union is now reporting this loan on our credit report. Since this loan was never fully executed this should not be reporting on our credit reports. I have made many phone calls to them and was promised a deletion however it has not materialized. I am concerned about the negative impact that this will have on our credit. We have worked very hard to maintain a positive credit file and need this resolved urgently.

Issue: Advertising and marketing, including promotional offers
Subissue: Confusing or misleading advertising about the credit card
Consumer Complaint: NavyFCU offers cardholders fraudulent promotions wherein only those transactions in excess of a certain amount are subject to a promotional 0 % APR -- say, either {$500.00} or {$1000.00} for 6 or 12 months, respectively -- but fails to specify in the terms of the offers that these promotions create a situation whereby the only way to avoid paying interest on any purchases not subject to the promotions is to pay the balance in full, including any portion of the balance subject to the promotional 0 % APR. I made 4 transactions total on my NavyFCU credit card within the past 2 months, only 2 of which were not subject to a 0 % promotional APR. Despite making payments by the due date which were in excess of those 2 purchases each month, I still wound paying interest on those purchases. I have been informed today by " XXXX '' that the only way I could have avoided paying interest on those purchases was to pay the balance in full, including that portion subject to the promotional 0 % APR, rendering the promotions fraudulent.

Issue: Managing an account
Subissue: Banking errors
Consumer Complaint: My Navy Federal Credit Union account was sucessfully logged into by an unauthorized user on an Android device with an unsupported build that is now 5 years outdated ( version 4.4.2 ). One day after the unauthorized user gained access, there was a deposit made to my checking account from an authorized 3rd party. This transaction has been posted on the 3rd party 's account but not reflected in my account, the receiving account. NFCU is doing nothing to rectify this problem or assist in any way. During this time, NFCU made no attempt to contact me and notify me of an unauthorized access. I instead had to call NCFU, four days after the unauthorized user gained access, to inquire about why I was not able to see the above mentioned deposit posted.

Consumer Complaint: On XXXX XXXX, 2017 there was XXXX deposited into my unused Navy Federal Credit Union Checking account. The money was for XXXX XXXX XXXX/XXXX vet but it was an erroneous deposit and just like with any deposit the government makes they try and recall it or they check you later. XXXX has requested the money multiple times only to find out that Navy Federal has without consent transferred it an account of their own choosing. I have never agreed to automatic transfers. If they had not removed the money by the time XXXX came to retrieve it and correct their mistake it would have been known. Also this money is exempt money so it can not be used to repay a debt. I have replied numerous times to them and so has XXXX. They have done this before and I had to call numerous times to get the taken money put back. They have replied back regarding the deposit and keep directing me to the debt recovery department. That 's not fixing the problem that has happened. They first replied to XXXX that the account was closed. Then they reported that they never received the request to return funds.
