Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed

Subissue: Debt is not yours

Consumer Complaint: Six or seven years ago Chase Bank credit card tried to collect on debt that wasn't legitimate. It was fraudulent. I filed a complaint with the CFPB ( XXXX XXXXXXXX ). After some communications back and forth, Chase said they would no longer try to collect the debt. Unbeknownst to me, they filed it as a charge off. Now they're sending me a 1099-C for 2022 saying the debt is being forgiven. This means that I wold have to pay taxes on it as income. The IRS told my congressman 's office that I have to get a corrected 1099-C from Chase. I want Chase to send me the corrected 1099-C saying there was no debt.

Issue: Managing an account

Subissue: Banking errors

Consumer Complaint: I legally changed my name in XXXX, however, despite going into the branch and having the name change processed. The name was updated on my end, I was reissued a new card. However, Chase continued to send me mailings in the old name. After struggling to get any support, I finally emailed Chase Executive team on Monday, XX/XX/XXXX to ensure the name was updated on all of their ancillary systems. I received a call from XXXX on Friday, XX/XX/XXXX informing me the changes were made. While traveling from XXXX to XXXX XXXX, XXXX I was unable to access the account via the web. Upon calling, I learned the account had been closed by Chase. I was traveling with no access to a working debit card or funds. I went to a branch in XXXX XXXX, but was advised a temporary card could not be issued and they were unable to revert the changes made in error. - At this time Chase does not know why my debit card was closed - At this time Chase does not know why the associated debit card and web account was closed - There is no option to provide a temporary card ( per the Branch Manager in XXXX XXXX and per XXXX ) - I was advised the cancellation of my card can not be reversed - I was advised that my card ending in XXXX does not show in Chase 's history as a valid account, and as such you are unable to revert the changes that were done in error. The card was used the week of contact with Chase. - I am being told nobody knows what happened and to expect a response by Friday, XX/XX/XXXX - I was told the name was correctly updated and should reflect in 1 - 2 billing cycles. However, I have a hard time believing this. Where would the changes reflect if my association to the account was removed by Chase? - I was left in XXXX XXXX with no access to my debit card and/or funds. I was forced to use a credit card.

Issue: Improper use of your report

Subissue: Credit inquiries on your report that you don't recognize

Consumer Complaint: I saw on my credit report an inquire on XXXX. It was Chase bank ( my bank ). Called and after several phone calls, complaints and requests, I found out they sent an offer for a business account to my old house address when I lived there in XXXX. I have not lived there since XXXX, but they continue to send offers with my information. A neighbor took my offer and applied since the house was vacant since XX/XX/XXXX till XX/XX/XXXX. When I called Chase bank at XXXX, they give me the rude runaround. They said it takes 90 days to have this removed. I called again to ensure they were in process 60 days after XXXX, and the person said, nothing was done and they would take care of it. I asked for a letter, which they never sent. This is XX/XX/XXXX. I WANT TO APPLY FOR A LOAN TO BUY A HOUSE AND THEY REFUSE TO REMOVE THIS CREDIT INQUIRY!!!! My cash is becoming worthless ... and worth less. Hence, I need to purchase a property. I told them I want to purchase a home and they are refusing to clear this up before I apply for a loan. I called XX/XX/XXXX and they said it takes 90 days and I need to wait till XX/XX/XXXX. I called back XX/XX/XXXX and still nothing except I need to wait 90 days for this to clear up. This inquiry also resulted in a letter from Chase to me asking if I am opening up a business account. They refused to tell me the address and yet, I finally asked enough times when I got a hold of someone in a foreign country instead of the XXXX. I asked what city and was told XXXX XXXX. Thus, I told them, XXXX XXXX XXXX and they confirmed. I knew exactly! I still own the home since purchase in XX/XX/XXXX, but I don't live there and have not since end of XXXX. I got a letter, which I will attach and they want to change this to a soft inquiry. I want NO inquiry as I did not do this. This is the fault of the bank sending these open ended offers that will result in a hard inquiry. CHASE bank knows my address, they knew I moved my home from XXXX XXXX, CA to XXXX, CA. They have that information. They have no business sending offers that trigger this to the open. They are responsible. They need to remove, not change to soft, but remove the inquiry immediately IF they can put a hard credit check on my credit report within hours, they can remove it within hours, not 90 days! The credit hit, is still there today as I checked again.

Issue: Problem with a lender or other company charging your account

Subissue: Transaction was not authorized

Consumer Complaint: Before this call I had went to deposit a total of {$200.00} into my account by tappi g my card since the card reader wasn't working. Later on XXXX, 2023 in the afternoon I received a call from this chase branch XXXX stating someone was trying to do fraud and they were calling to prevent it from happening they said they were going to text my phone number a pin to lock my account and mail out a new card so I read them the pin back they texted. A few minutes after I started seeing money being withdrawn from my account which added to a total of XXXX dollars. After that I rushed over to my chase branch and spoke to the manager and they helped me lock my account and file a claim. The next day I checked my account to see if I had gotten the temporary credit but it resulted they withdrew more money to a total of XXXX dollars on XXXX XXXX2023. I went back to my chase branch and they helped me do another claim. A few days later I checked on my claim and they were both closed saying there was not enough evidence to give me my money back. When I checked my account for those withdrawals they did it showed they had been done through the same ATM where I had deposited money that same morning. So all the withdrawals presented on my account were from the same ATM I deposited my money. I don't understand how there was not enough information if they checked their cameras they should of seen I was never at the ATM withdrawaling those amounts. At first they said I was getting my money back so I was very confident waiting even waiting for the temporary credit. Even the manager at the branch said they were going to help to get my money back and nothing. I felt very mislead by the fact they kept making it seem I was going to get my money back and they were going to check the cameras and reopen a new claim which they never did.

Issue: Struggling to pay mortgage

Subissue:

Consumer Complaint: Re ; Overcharging- Assurant lender Placed Insurance I dont know if the Consumer XXXX Bureau is the appropriate authority for lender placed insurance. If not can you forward to the correct agency or person? I am XXXX XXXX XXXX. I live in Florida. I am appealing to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau for help. I am specifically asking consumer protection to weigh the possibility that XXXX should rebate at least part of the premiums already charged to homeowners subject to lender placed insurance. I believe XXXX XXXX the lender placed insurance company is overcharging premiums. The most financially fragile homeowners in the U.S are being taken advantage of, in fact, being run into foreclosures by some of the highest premiums and lowest claims payouts. These homeowners are required to pay for the operational details of placing lender chosen policies on mortgages, including the costs of tracking XXXX XXXX mortgages. XXXX is posting XXXX XXXX dollars in the lender placed insurance business segment-payable to some of the wealthiest institutional stockholders in the world. My original homeowners insurance company cancelled my policy because of a XX/XX/XXXX claim. In Florida this made me uninsurable. Chase Bank imposed a lender placed policy on my mortgage from XX/XX/XXXX to XX/XX/XXXX which is Assurants third financial quarter XXXX to second quarter, XXXX. Between these dates XXXX reports ongoing digital advances in operational efficiencies in lender placed insurance leveraging millions of dollars in cost benefits for stockholders. Millions leveraged for stockholders by accelerating technology should be rightfully rebated to homeowners who already paid full price for the same operational details, including tracking XXXX XXXX mortgages. I was paying Assurants crushing premiums from XX/XX/XXXX to XX/XX/XXXX, XXXX cost could have caused the loss of my family home with more than {$100000.00} in equity. I never received any notice of intended rebate even after XX/XX/XXXX. In addition, XXXX should be adjusting premiums taking into account the cost benefits of these expanding technological advantages.

Issue: Getting a credit card

Subissue: Card opened as result of identity theft or fraud

Consumer Complaint: I received a bill in the mail from Chase for a credit card I did not have. Although it looked legitimate, I doubted that it was real. I looked up the phone number on the actual Chase site and called. After verifying my identity, they confirmed that the account had been opened and marked it as fraudulent. They notified me that the individual that opened it used 'my social security number ' and they are investigating it.Charges of {$5600.00} on that card that had been opened for the full bank statement duration. Chase told me to contact XXXX and supplied me with the number. I called XXXX and opted for the credit freeze option. My concern is this may be just the beginning of accounts opened in my name although the credit report I viewed showed no activity, I recognize that it and possibly others simply may not be logged yet. Chase is handling it correctly, XXXX took proper action in my opinion. I'm simply wanting to ask if there's more I should be doing to lock down my Social Security number to better protect myself. Please help where you can. Thanks

Subissue:

Consumer Complaint: there is an escrow overage amount in my mortgage account that is {$4500.00}. Chase supposedly mailed it out to me the check in an escrow statement back on XX/XX/XXXX. I dont get statements so the XXXX there didnt think to check that I get paperless statements. They still couldnt figure it out 10 days later. I figured it out when I went to my statement settings. Ive never received my money. No one responds to my inquiries. Theyre keeping my money which is my money. And theyre not applying my mortgage payments correctly. I paid the regular payment and they only applied the new adjusted monthly amount which is {$200.00} less. They have not applied my extra {$200.00}. They have not responded to me.
