Issue: Trouble using your card
Subissue: Credit card company won't increase or decrease your credit limit
Consumer Complaint: I have attempted to contact capital one about this issue several time over the past year or two. They are unable to provide a reason for not granting my CLI request. I've had this account card for over six years now. In capital one 's most recent denial letter that I've gotten, it does not state a reason. It simply say 's not available upon request. This is the reason usually given for a secured card account, this card is not secured and has been graduated a long time ago. Stuck with a merely XXXX $ limit, even though I've been granted limits of {$6000.00} and up from other banks. This is absolutely ridiculous that when I call, and ask what the reason is? The representatives can't give me any useful information. This is not proper practice for a financial institution, all other banks give valid reasons, such as low credit score, too many inquiries, payment history, and capital one has given that reason for this account before. But when I clear everything up and wait, they end up not being able to provide a reason anymore and just say this. And on the same letter it says, look at the back for a denial reason, and my reason is not listed!

Issue: Trouble using your card
Subissue: Can't use card to make purchases
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2023, I attempted to make an online purchase with the credit card. It was declined. I called the number on the back of the card. I reviewed the transaction and told them that I made the purchase. They asked me several questions which I answered. The representative told me that the card should work and that I could finish my purchase.. I pay my balance every month and the purchase was within my credit limit. There was no good reason to deny the charge. I wasted a half an hour of time. I went back on line and attempted to make the same purchase which had been declined. Again the card was declined. I called the number on the back of the card again. The representative spoke with a heavy accent and I could not understand half of what she said. She refused to authorize the purchase. Consequently, the first person I spoke with was a liar. The second person demanded my drivers license. I have no idea who this person was and I am not giving her my drivers license. She told me that she would not authorize my card without giving her my drivers license. This is absolutely ridiculous. I asked to speak with the manager. Person number XXXX also had a heavy accent and was difficult to understand. He demanded my drivers license. I am not giving a stranger my drivers license. How do I know that this is not a scam? How can I give him my license- I have a landline? I am not emailing my drivers license or SSN number to a stranger. Even though the charge was within my credit limit, they refused the charge and deactiviated my card. I have some recurring charges every month on the card. All these charges will now be defaulted because of these jerks. I will incur additional fees. Person number XXXX refused to let me speak with a higher manager. There was no legitimate reason for denying my purchase or deactivating my card. I ended up wasting more time. I think this is a scam to make me forfeit all of my points. I have a lot of unused points on the card.

Consumer Complaint: I purchased a game set online from XXXX individuals. When the game arrived the game was a fake. I contacted the bank and filed a dispute. I filed charges at the police station and in the courthouse and sent the copies to the bank for proof along with the conversation with the seller admitting I was robbed. The bank em denied the claim and said the merchant doesnt want to return the money. I have fraud protection through my bank! I should be protected by then especially when I provided all the proof necessary to them already.

Issue: Problem when making payments
Subissue: Problem during payment process
Consumer Complaint: I opened a capital one credit card in XX/XX/2023. Since then Ive had several unpleasant and unexpected encounters with them. The most recent is auto pay. I had a problem with the app for capital one in XXXX as well as fraud and capital one not sending me a new card. Their explanations were I dont know why that happened. Well now Im still encountering problems. My payment due said {$58.00} because 2 payments were due because of an issue processing my XXXX payment. I made a {$29.00} payment so my payment adjusted to then owing {$29.00} for XXXX. I then cancelled the payment I had scheduled on XX/XX/XXXX for {$58.00}. My autopay remained on and said and stills says scheduled payment XX/XX/XXXX. XXXX XXXX ET. So according to the capital one app I of course believed an autopay would occur for the {$29.00} due for XXXX. No payment was taken out. They said my ending statement said minimum due {$58.00} even though the minimum due on the app updated to {$29.00} due now. So they said i owed the {$58.00}. Confused. I escalated the call to no avail. I was given excuses that made no sense as what I was looking at didnt coincide with their excuses. They wouldnt help after a 1 hour 1 minute call I finally hung up no further along than them talking in circles with the ONLY reason being thats how autopay works she was rude and unprofessional as well as not seeming to have knowledge of anything. She ended by asking if there was anything she could assist me with and I said remove the {$29.00} late fee for them not taking out my {$29.00} payment. She said she couldnt and I said why did you ask then, in her words, because I have to.

Consumer Complaint: I purchased a game from a website online. The game was fake when it arrived. The payment was made through the website by providing me debit card. When I looked at the statement it said XXXX XXXX. I never used XXXX XXXX and dont have an account registered with them. The individual set up a fake website to collect my information and made these charges through them. This was a scam that was done to many people. I went to the police station and filed a report for the unauthorized transaction and the use of my information and for sending out fake games. The claim was denied when it should not have been because I didnt authorize any XXXX XXXX transactions and dont have it and this is obviously a scam.

Consumer Complaint: Capital One Auto is illegally reporting this account on my consumer reports as paid in full for less than full balance AND charged off. This is illegal and wrong. An account is either charged off from an unpaid balance or settled for an agreed amount which XXXX out the account or paid. I have attached a letter from Capital One Auto clearly stating that I agreed and paid the proposed amount of {$390.00} as a " settlement offer ''. I agreed to settle. Once the money was paid the account should have reflected as such. Capital One Auto is refusing to correct their grave error which is illegal and misleading to the consumer and anyone that is verifying my credit worthiness. Their negligence is continuing to cause me undue hardship. I am constantly being faced with discrimination of my credit from their illegal practices. I have also attached the settlement letter to this complaint as proof stating directly from Capital One Auto that this account should have reflected settled for less than full balance that's it that's all. Capital One Auto continues to violate many laws of the Fair Credit Reporting Act and my rights as a consumer.
