Consumer Complaint: Santander USA repossessed my car after I told them that it was inspected by FEMA for possible damages reimbursement from hurricane Harvey. They then proceeded to place XXXX in collections on my credit report and continuously lied to credit bureau dispute investigators. They finally removed it from my XXXX and XXXX however it's still on my XXXX report. This company repossessed my car after me telling them that I was engaged in a racial descrimination lawsuit against a previous employer.

Issue: Problem with a credit reporting company's investigation into an existing problem

Subissue: Their investigation did not fix an error on your report

Consumer Complaint: XXXX is not removing or blocking an account per FCRA regulations when I submitted an Identity theft report claiming I was a victim of ID theft. I'm attaching the report for your records. There are 2 accounts reporting to XXXX which are fraudaulent & I'D like them removed from my report. They claim they verified the accounts with the company but I'm truly confused how they can verify a fraudulent account. I believe they feel they're above the law & I'd like this matter handled ASAP as it's damaging my credit & impacting my emotional & physical health.

Issue: Problems at the end of the loan or lease

Subissue: Problem with paying off the loan

Consumer Complaint: I purchased a car in XX/XX/2013 in which the finance company Santander Consumer USA for {$18000.00}. It stated in the contract that, at the end of my loan, I would have paid {$17000.00} in interest. Recently, I called them to get the pay off amount because when I went online, it showed that I still owed {$12000.00}. For the past couple of years, I began to see the amount go down slowly. But instead of paying toward the principal, they have been putting half, sometimes all of the installment toward the interest. After adding up what has been put toward the interest and principal, I discovered that {$24000.00} has been paid in interest and roughly {$6000.00} toward the principal.I 've spoken to different reps including a supervisor which all said that I have not satisfied the interest yet. One time I was laid off, and it took a couple of months to get caught up. I was charged late fees in which I paid. I paid double, one time, to get it back on track. They stated to me, today, that because I had several auto extensions ( which includes some that were 5 days late ), that all of those payments went directly to interest. It states in my contract that I can be up to 7 days late and charged only a late fee. I was charged both and don't understand how they can do this. I've purchase several cars throughout the years and have never seen any thing like this. It seems like they can charge people whatever they want to and get away with it. I don't know what to do and really need help.

Issue: Managing the loan or lease

Subissue: Billing problem

Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/XXXX Santander became my automobile finance company after I put $ XXXX down on a car. It's now XX/XX/XXXX and I still owe just as much as I did in XXXX. I don't understand how I could pay {$32000.00}, total to date ( XXXX ) and still owe over $ 24k. I've been a loyal customer to Santander but I can't get any help with this problem. I found out today that Santander had assigned my car for repossession without my knowledge. I'm constantly threatened with repossession and I get 7-10 phone calls every week. All of this and I've paid them over $ 32k. Santander had me paying interest only some years ago and I don't know if this added more money to my loan or if it was extended. I was never told if any time or money was added to my loan. I need help with this Issue ASAP because my loan matures in XX/XX/XXXX and Santander shows that I still owe over $ 24k. Santander has made a lot of money on this deal and they are acting in a predatory fashion by trying to prolong the loan and repossess my car. Please help.
