Issue: Written notification about debt
Subissue: Didn't receive enough information to verify debt
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I wrote to Portfolio Recovery disputing a collection posted in my account and requested for more information, specifically validation on the debt. I sent the letter via certified mail ( XXXX tracking number XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ) and it was delivered on the XXXX of XX/XX/XXXX. In the letter, I also requested the company to Cease and Desist from reporting this debt to any Credit Reporting Agency as it was not validated. On XX/XX/XXXX, I received a letter back from Portfolio Recovery. In their letter, they acknowledged the dispute and noted that they concluded their investigation and that the information reported to the credit agencies was accurate. They also provided a summary showing an amount, alleged original creditor, account numbers and the last 4 digits of my social security number. On XX/XX/XXXX, I responded back to Portfolio Recovery, advising that they had still not provided any proper validation for the collection account in my Credit Report and that they were violating my rights as a consumer for not providing this information. They had also not deleted the account from my Credit Report and the language used on the letter had violated several consumer laws. This letter was sent via certified mail ( XXXX tracking number XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ) and a return receipt was also included. I never received a return receipt back. The tracking number showed my letter was delivered on XX/XX/XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX, I received similar letters to the ones they had sent to me prior, and they said the same thing. That they were denying any inaccuracies in the information furnished to the Credit Reporting Agencies and their investigation was complete. I never received any signed contract, and I never received any investigative report. So, I still dont understand how they concluded that the debt was valid and belonged to me. They also sent account statements showing consumer purchases. On XX/XX/XXXX I responded back to Portfolio Recovery and told them that I was still disputing the debt as no proper validation or signed contract had been furnished to me. In addition, I brought to their attention several consumer laws that they had violated and an amount that they owed me due to the violations. I sent the letter via certified mail ( XXXX tracking number XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ) and also included a return receipt. I have not received the return receipt but on checking the XXXX site, my letter was delivered to Portfolio on XX/XX/XXXX. As of today, XX/XX/XXXX, I have not heard back from Portfolio Recovery, and they are still reporting the collection account on my Credit Report. This account has not been validated properly and it should not be on my credit report. Please assist in getting a resolution.

Consumer Complaint: I am filing this complaint because PORTFOLIO RC has ignored my request to provide me with the documents that their company has on file that was used to verify the accounts I disputed. Being that they have gone past the 30 day mark and can not verify these accounts under Section 611 ( 5 ) ( A ) of the FCRA- they are required to. Promptly delete all information which can not be verified. Please resolve this manner as soon as possible thank you.

Subissue: Debt is not yours
Consumer Complaint: Dear CFPB Im writing this letter in reference to Portfolio Recovery, they have placed XXXX collection accounts on my credit report. I have asked them numerous times for a contract showing a signature or a recorded line to prove that this account is mine. These two collection accounts are not mine they do not belong to me. I never opened them, and this has been hindering me for a few years. I have been affected with this when it comes to getting car loans, credit cards, and housing. I have called them and stated that there is a fraud alert on my account, and I want a wet signature to show where and when I opened these accounts. Im requesting that this information be sent to me within 30 days, if not I would like these items to be removed by Portfolio Recovery. Its amazing how a company can list items on your credit report and claim that its yours and stop your forward progress in life. I refuse to start the year off in bondage. There has been no answers. I'm at the point where I'm planning to take legal action to have this matter taken care of.

Subissue: You told them to stop contacting you, but they keep trying
Consumer Complaint: I've explained that the debt was fraudulent and was told to contact the initial company which I did. I was told it was handed over to a debt collector. I've told the debt collector it was fraudulent also but they said they can't do nothing about it. I proceeded to receive 4 to 5 calls a day and I finally asked them to stop harassing me with calls. They stopped for a couple months and then proceeded to continue calling.

Consumer Complaint: This company continues to harass me over a debt that's fraudulent. I've provided them proof of this on numerous occasions. In fact, the debt was proven fraud and deleted from the bureaus, but this company had it added back on which is illegal and a violation of my rights. This is causing me great anguish and I'm considering litigation. Please help me put a stop to this madness.

Consumer Complaint: I have repeatedly informed the debt collections company that I am not under contract with them and do not owe them. The debt that they are claiming is fraudulent and was from a prepaid card that was already paid for and could not collect more than the money Id already paid upfront and closed. When I did answer and attempt to resolve this the man on the phone started yelling at me and berated me. They continue to call me while Im at work and are relentless in their pursuit of an inaccurate and fraudulent charge to my previous account with a company not authorized or under contract with this company. I really want them to stop, though I blocked the number more than 4 times and they continue to harass me.
