Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, XXXX, Navy Federal Credit Union tranferred {$3500.00} from my checking account to my closed credit card account ( also with Navy Federal Credit Union ) without my permission and without any sort of notice ( written or verbal ). I recently had a bankruptcy dismissed in XXXX, and still had some outstanding debts on the credit card. I spoke with a service representative on XX/XX/XXXX to plead my case that the amount was unreasonable and asked that they return the funds. I also said I was willing to set up a more reasonable payment plan, but the representative only offered the standard responses that I should have called to set up a payment plan after the bankruptcy was dismissed. So no progress was made. The following day, XX/XX/XXXX, I learned that after that call with Navy Fed on XX/XX/XXXX, they made a second unauthorized transfer from my checking account to the oustanding balance on the credit card in the amount of {$2600.00}. This dropped my checking account balance to - {$2.00}. Added up, these two collections represent over 50 % of my disposable income for the month whereas federal law, to my understanding, limits such collections to 25 % of disposable income. I am now facing a handful of missed payments on rent and other bills over the next few weeks, and I have XXXX cash or other means to purchase food, gas, and supplies during an already difficult time.

Consumer Complaint: During the week of XX/XX/2020 - XX/XX/2020 my checking account with Navy Federal Credit Union was hacked into and {$1600.00} was stolen from me. I tried reporting this information to the Navy Federal Credit Union but they keep telling me after a thorough investigation on our side we have determined that no error has occured. I have even provided them with a police report and a schedule for when I was at work but an associate connected to the investigator from Navy Federal Credit Union has told me that they now need some new information other than what Ive provided them to prove my innocence. I dont know what else to provide them so thats why I am seeking help from you guys.

Issue: Opening an account
Subissue: Confusing or missing disclosures
Consumer Complaint: I recently opened a checking account over the phone with a representative and not one disclosure was read to me, I was never asked about any of the federally required questions that are regulations per the patriot act, and I was never even asked basic questions ; like if I wanted a joint account or any beneficiaries. I work for another financial institution, and often open accounts for folks requesting them over the phone and I was honestly alarmed at the lack of procedure to open this checking account. I said I wanted a checking, and about 30 seconds later, it was open with no questions or disclosures, no W-9 form, and no signature card. It just seemed odd to me and I felt obligated to report this lack of oversight. I have been a Navy Federal member for over a decade, and I have enjoyed doing business with them, but again, I was very alarmed by this experience.

Issue: Problem with a purchase shown on your statement
Subissue: Credit card company isn't resolving a dispute about a purchase on your statement
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX I purchased two train tickets for XXXX to XXXX through XXXX. As a result of travel restrictions issued by the XXXX due to Covid-19 I was unable to travel to XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX I contacted XXXX XXXX to cancel my train ticket and ask for a complete refund. XXXX has a no refund policy and under normal circumstances I wouldn't ask for my money back, but these are not normal circumstances. Also, every other travel organization I booked for this trip to XXXX gave a full refund. I was first told that I would get no refund and after a few emails was told 50 % refund on XX/XX/XXXX. I wanted 100 % back. So I disputed the charge with my credit card institution, Navy Federal Credit Union. I received a letter in the mail yesterday, XX/XX/XXXX, stating that I lost my dispute and the case had been closed. Again, if these were normal times I would agree with the decision but I don't accept it now. Two points here : 1 ) Don't use XXXX to book travel and 2 ) don't use Navy Federal credit cards if you think you will ever submit a legitimate dispute. Not only is their website cumbersome to navigate, it hasn't appeared to me that Navy Federal supports its customers.

Subissue: Information belongs to someone else
Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/XXXX I received two unsolicited Navy Federal Credit Union Visa credit cards. I have never at any time had contact with Navy Federal Credit Union for any reason. In XX/XX/XXXX I received a letter indicating that a checking account and a savings account had also been opened in my name. I called Navy Federal, filed a fraud report ( attached ) and was told that the issue would be resolved and the accounts removed from my credit report. Navy Federal informed me that nothing had ever been charged to the credit cards, a nd no checks had been written on the checking account. In XXXX of XXXX I checked my credit report and the credit card was still showing, with a balance of roughly {$12.00}, and a note that payment was over 30 days late. It had a very deleterious effect on my credit score. I called Navy Federal again and tried to work through this issue again. It seems that Navy Federal had charged the {$10.00} to the credit card account to expedite shipment of the credit cards I never applied for to me. Today, XX/XX/XXXX, I received two collections letters from Navy Federal dated XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX. One informed me that this fraudulent account was now 60 days past due and that it was an attempt to collect {$12.00}. The other informed me that because I had failed this debt I never contracted or incurred, my credit card interest rate was being escalated. Navy Federal has, since XXXX, been supposed to provide me with documentation that this issue has been resolved. Other than these fraudulent dunning notices, I have received no communication from them at all. I have requested copies of all communications, internal and external relating to me and these fraudulent accounts, and been given nothing at all. I requested that all record of me be removed from Navy Federal 's system, including name address, and all identifying numbers and been stonewalled on this as well. Navy Federal has behaved recklessly in allowing these accounts to be created without verifying the identity of the person requesting them. They behaved incompetently in addressing what is a purely internal problem. I have been treated from beginning to end as if I were the problem and it is clear that their business convenience is far more important than redressing injuries their carelessness causes innocent parties.
