Issue: Fees or interest
Subissue: Problem with fees
Consumer Complaint: I was signed up without my written or verbal consent for a discover payment protection plan since XX/XX/2008. The lady at the discover center in XXXX told me that I would have had to request this plan. She admitted it was added without my consent. This has resulted in thousands of dollars in fees I never authorized for I service I did not need or want. Discover only offered to give me back the illegal fees they charged me for the last six months with no interest. I have done research and it seems there have been thousands of victims in the past that resulted in a massive lawsuit where discover paid claims. Discoverer advertises that they are no fees for their cards and this is blatant false advertising. I would like all my payment protection plan fees refunded plus interest since XX/XX/2008. Big financial institutions can not get away with scamming people like this.

Issue: Closing an account
Subissue: Company closed your account
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I called Discover Bank to reorder a new debit card. When I called, I was transferred to the fraud and security department. I spoke the representative there and she asked me about a check that deposited. I stated that I did make that deposit in error. I accidentally did a mobile deposit twice with the same check. They both were for the same amount. It was an honest mistake and I expressed that to the representative. She took care of the issue but my account was negative. I just started a new job and my first paycheck would cover the negative balance. She agreed. I asked if I could have a replacement debit card. She placed an order to have my new debit card delivered to me by Tuesday, XX/XX/XXXX. Today, Tuesday, XX/XX/XXXX, I got various emails from Discover Bank. One telling me that I was being unenrolled in e-statements and that I had to detach external accounts from the account. I called Discover Bank and was transferred to the fraud and security department. I verified my account and was then told that my account was closed due to fraudulent activity. I told the person, I just spoke to someone from the same department on Saturday and they didnt tell me this. I asked the agent, who I'm currently on the phone with, " When did the account close? '' They replied, " Today Tuesday, XX/XX/XXXX around XXXX XXXX '' When I asked very reasonable questions like, " What transaction triggered the account '' or " Is there a corporate phone number I can call? '' or " Why did Discover Bank close my account when they overnighted me a debit card? ", I was stonewalled with the response, " Because the account is closed, I am unable to discuss the account. '' I would like the CFPB to do everything in their power to get the truth from Discover Bank on why my account was being closed. Especially since they mailed me out a new debit card, which was delivered on the expected due date. I was such a good customer with Discover Bank, that they send me a gift of a brand new duffle bag when I told one of the agents that I was going on a trip. Discover Bank said that it was a " Business Decision '' to close my account. I don't believe that. And hopefully, after the CFPB 's inquiry, I'll have the real reason and not a computer-generated daisy chain lased explanation in generic terminology of why my account was closed. I am starting to believe that Discover Bank is hiding behind the disambiguation phrase " business decision '' for other intentions that might be happening to other consumers. Because if my account was closed for " Business Decision '' why did they overnight my a new debit card and then wait 72 hours to determine my account was subjected to being closed.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2019 payment was made by check to Discover Student Loans in the amount of XXXX, to satisfy all obligations. This amount is more than what was owed to Discover on that date. Discover has since that date issued dozens of false statements which fail to credit my account with the full proceeds of my remittance. Discover has falsely claimed that a portion of the loan is still outstanding despite having been informed of the foregoing on dozens of occasions. Discover has falsely claimed that the loan is outstanding despite having furnished me with statements on their letterhead which indicate that the loan is paid in full. Discover has harassed me for months to pay them moneys that are not owed and has libeled me by reporting that failure to pay them to credit agencies and falsely and deliberately adversely affecting my credit rating. Based on the documents supplied by Discover the loan was in fact OVERPAID on XX/XX/XXXX yet Discover refuses to render an accounting despite my demands on dozens of occasions.

Consumer Complaint: I submitted an Identity Theft Report to the all 3 Credit Bureau on or around XX/XX/2018 and stated, " I am a victim of identity theft and that the accounts listed in my report does not relate to any transaction ( s ) that I had made. I requested that they block all the accounts listed and information from my credit report, pursuant to section 605B of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and send the required notifications to all furnishers of this information. All accounts were removed except " DISCOVER FIN SVCS LLC '' in the amount of {$1500.00}. The comments on the account now states " Account previously in dispute - now resolved, reported by data furnisher ( To be used for FCRA or FCBA disputes ) '' After receiving this notification I then sent a letter to the Credit Bureau requesting for proof of verification in which I have not received. I filed a police report, filed a Federal Trade Commission Identify Theft Report - XXXX, and completed an identity Theft Victims Complaint and Affidavit. This account is not mine and I am requesting that it be removed from my credit report.
