Issue: Problem with a credit reporting company's investigation into an existing problem
Subissue: Their investigation did not fix an error on your report
Consumer Complaint: I suffered a major XXXX event and was in various hospitals for 6 months ( and can easily document same ). Because Discover Financial had switched me to " Paperless Billing '' and had an incorrect email address, those people monitoring my finances during my hospitalization were unaware of payments due to Discover. When Discover finally reached out via actual mail & phone my payments were 3 months in arrears. My wife immediately contacted them, paid the account up-to-date, and Discover waved all late fees. However, I have since " discovered '' that they are destroying my credit report, reporting 3 late payments with one being 120+ in arrears. When I explained this, they refused to repair the information, claiming it is illegal under the Fair Credit Reporting Act to fix negative information that is the result of their error ( XXXX tells me they bounced Discover 's emails back to them, but Discover ignored the messages, and Discover waited 3 months to use the telephone number they had on file ). I am also told that there is discretionary rules that WOULD allow Discover to repair the damage they have done, but they refuse to do so. This false information is ruining what was an excellent credit score and costing me greatly, I desperately NEED this repaired.

Consumer Complaint: I submitted case # XXXX to the CFPB regarding illegal actions Discover Card has engaged in regarding a dispute on my account. The response from Discover Card was false and fraudulent and did not address the full complaint. I have now requested the information for the Agent For Service of Process 7 times from employees in the Executive Offices at Discover card and have been refused a response. Discover card seems to think they are above the law in this case and needs to be investigated for fraud.

Consumer Complaint: XX/XX/2019 I decided to set up automatic payments with Discover Card to ensure I was not as risk of submitting late payments. I utilized Discover 's instant messaging interface on the website. Upon indicating to the Discover customer service representative about my intent ( I have documentation of the correspondence ), the website timed my account out, therefore, indicating to me the customer representative set up my automatic payments. Unfortunately today I received a notification via XXXX XXXX that Discover issued a negative report against my credit score. Upon attempting to resolve this with Discover by paying the balance immediately, I was lied to by customer service agent XXXX XXXX who indicated it was illegal to make such corrections and disputes to previously submitted reports. I was also given information that Discover representatives indicated would not help my situation however would get me off of the phone. Before Discover sent the report to the collection department Discover did not attempt to contact me via phone nor text to indicate I was a past due amount on my account. I believe as a customer for 11 years, in excellent standing Discover should have at least followed up regarding the automatic payments, attempted to contact me before reporting to collections, and not lied to me in hoping to qualm by attempts to rectify the situation. It appears this might have been done maliciously in an attempt to accrue interest on the balance.

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2019 in an attempt to reduce the amount of interest charges on a current credit card debt I read over a mailer I received for a Discover It Business card offer. The terms and conditions listed that Balance Transfers are offered at 15.24 % APR and a fee of 5 % of the transferred amount followed by the rules/regulations governing balance transfers. Knowing that this cards rates and fees will save my company money in interest charges, I applied online. During a required phone conversation I was approved for the card, at which time I inquired about the Balance Transfer procedure. The representative replied with this card doesnt offer Balance Transfers. Thinking that the rep had made a mistake I informed her that the mailer I received said otherwise. She apologized and said their must be a typing error ... our business card doesnt offer Balance Transfers! Of course I was angered by this, the sole purpose of applying for the card was because of the advertised Balance Transfer options! Not only was I misled by their fraudulent documents, they have placed credit inquiries with XXXX that will affect my credit score when applying for a card that does offer Balance Transfers. I have canceled the card and simply want Discover to take steps to remove the inquiry from my credit report! To which they have responded that they can not. This is false and misleading advertising.

Consumer Complaint: I was notified on XXXX/XXXX/19 by my free credit monitoring service that my Discover Card account had been closed by Discover on XXXX/XXXX/19. Discover never contacted me to tell me my account had been closed. I called and spoke to customer service and was informed that the account was closed due to " business reasons '' and that they had no further information they could give me. They informed me I could not re-open the account and there was no one else I could speak to who could assist me further. They only offered to send me an address to which I could send a letter, but the email I was expecting with that mailing address never arrived. At a minimum I would like a thorough explanation of why my account was closed, and I would appreciate having the account re-opened.

Consumer Complaint: Discover Student Loans On Saturday XX/XX/XXXX, I received a phone call at XXXX about my missed payment. I believe that is outside of hours that a company should be calling about a missed payment. I called Discover at XX/XX/XXXX to stop calls and only communicate by email or regular mail. I was told OK. Then today XX/XX/XXXX, I have now received 4 phone calls. I resorted to scheduling a payment to stop the calls. On happened while I was with a doctor for my child. This constant harassing about a payment at most two weeks late is too much.

Consumer Complaint: I'm currently in a divorce. Sometime back in XXXX I had an alert that my credit had dropped. My score at the time was about 810. Logged into and reviewed my credit cards and noticed a Discover card with a {$20000.00} balance. I called Discover explained my concern. Sure enough the acct was opened by a mail in. Card is in my name but ex is the only authorized user and her cell and email address was listed as contacts. Discover refused to give me the full acct number. They opened a fraud case. Discover does send me the statements. There was a XXXX balance at date of separation. In two months ex charged {$20000.00} out of spite on a card I had no knowledge of. Discover got back to me and said after reviewing, there was a few payments made from a joint checking acct, I also didn't know about this acct either! So because of this loop hole they could not charge fraud. I've called several times, spoke to many reps and basically get a new story each time. I even went to the police attempted to file charges, their hands were tied too. On XX/XX/XXXX I called and spoke to XXXX # XXXX. He informed me that if I made a {$200.00} payment then Discover would re-open the case and then this would be taken off my credit. They have yet to keep their end of the deal. I have the money to pay in full and will but I want my once perfect credit to be restored. I'm a victim of Discover being able to send a mail in request for card, loop hole of payment being made from checking that had my name and a malicious ex. All I'm want is my credit restored to the XXXX it was and Discover can have their money IN FULL!

Consumer Complaint: Discover card advertized promotional rates and I applied. Got approved for {$4500.00} credit line. They run my credit which is excellent. I got email " congratulations, you card is in the mail '', than I received completely fraudulent request for my tax returns release from XXXX. I called Discover and they explained that they just implemented brand new policy of requesting tax reutrns AFTER they approve credit card. This policy is complete fraud. After all those security breaches at XXXX, XXXX, Credit Card acompanies and banks, you got to be completely insane to release your taxes to them. Most importantly, Discover DID NOT DSCLOSE PRIOR TO applying and running my hard credit check that they will be requiring my tax returns release. if they had disclosed prior to taking my application that they have new policy of requesting release of consumer 's tax returns thru recently hacked Equifax, I would have never applied. I requested they remove the credit check from my credit reports and they refused. I beleive this practice is FRAUDULENT.
