Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Can't temporarily delay making payments
Consumer Complaint: I am XXXX XXXX XXXX and XXXX XXXX veteran due to service connection. I can not get relief from AES for my private student loans, not only that but I had to lose credit for the entire semester of school because I enlisted in XXXX XXXX for the XXXX and did not get a refund from the school in the spring of XXXX due to my ship out date being before the end of school. They call me countless times and the stress from those calls is extremely burdensome and makes my XXXX worse every day. My federal loans through them were relieved ( XXXX ) years after my XXXX and XXXX XXXX became effective ( XXXX ) because I was not notified that I was eligible to do that. The calls every day, multiple times, and calling my parents who I do not live with that were co-signers over a decade ago all affect my mental health negatively. Its repeated multiple times a day and then they call the co-signers causing them to call and harass me because they threaten them with credit reporting. AMERICAN EDUCATION SERVICES does not care that I was XXXX due to my military service, they just want to harass me to pay them daily. Its bad enough that I lost freedom and the ability to live active due to my service but this company calls daily and threatens and harassed me affecting my XXXX. They dont care about US service members.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan
Subissue: Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan
Consumer Complaint: I owe approximately 75k to American Education Services, I believe part of PHEAA. I've been told repeatedly that I have no repayment options left except to pay the full amount each month. I can't!!! But, I WANT TO PAY. I just need better terms. I'm an XXXX XXXX XXXX veteran, and maintaining a job is hard enough. If they will default me anyway because I can't pay what they require, why should I at all? May as well keep that money for rent, utilities, etc.

Consumer Complaint: Fedloan Servicing took over my loans in XXXX of XXXX after I initiated the PSLF application process. I maintained my auto-payments that were established with my original lender and was never notified of changes to my invoice or loan structure. My loans are Direct Loans and I was under the Graduated Repayment Plan, I knew I would be denied for PSLF, but I am hopeful for the Temporary Expansion of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program as I have worked for over 10 years in non-profits, made 120 on time qualifying payments, all of my employers have been certified and I have always paid in excess of what my established billing amount has been for years. I have been battling Fedloans since XX/XX/XXXX with consistent denials as a result of incorrect information on their part. They recognize the errors when I call and inform me that they will resubmit my application for review with TEPSLF. They will not allow me to speak to a representative at TEPSLF and will not provide copies of our conversations nor the emails they claim to be sending to TEPSLF on my behalf explaining the errors. My most recent denial came in XXXX of XXXX, I received a phone call from a representative from Fedloan stating my account was ready for approval for forgiveness but they needed my employer to send a recent certification letter. I had my employer do so, and resubmitted a new application as directed by Fedloan representative. I then received notification less than two weeks later that my application was being denied because the amount that Fedloan has been invoicing me monthly is less than what my payment should be if I were under the Income Based Repayment Plan, however my monthly payments made for years, exceed what my payment should be under the IBRP. The amount being billed by Fedloan is exactly XXXX less than what the IBRP payment would be. My monthly payments are 100-150 dollars more than what my payment would be under IBRP. They also claim that my estimated IBRP amount went up almost XXXX between the XXXX notification of XXXX being the required payment, to XXXX it exceeds XXXX. My documentation that I have submitted all along to Fedloan has not changed, my household size had not changed, I have always provided my tax return documents from XXXX for full disclosure and clarity. I just found out yesterday that when Fedloan acquired my loans from XXXX in XXXX of XXXX when I submitted my application for PSLF, they altered the structure of my Graduated Repayment Plan, dropped my monthly invoiced amount from XXXX down to XXXX without my knowledge or approval, resulting in the denial of TEPSLF. If Fedloan had not changed my repayment structure and left my invoiced amount where it was with my previous lender, my application would have been approved for forgiveness. I feel this was done intentionally and illegally, I meet all of the outlined criteria for TEPSLF and Fedloan is doing their best to block the process, including by actually altering people 's loans. This needs to be stopped and I am seeking legal action, I have also notified my Attorney General for the State of Arkansas as well as the Department of Education Complaint line.

Consumer Complaint: The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency ( PHEAA ) has incorrectly denied my application for the Temporary Expanded Public Service Loan Forgiveness ( TEPSLF ) program, under which I meet all of the requirements for student loan forgiveness. Since my application was denied on XX/XX/2019, I have made 7 phone calls to their customer service representatives to resolve the issue, which have been unsuccessful. The letter I received saying I did not qualify for forgiveness stated that I had only made 113 qualifying payments ( 120 must be made to qualify ). I told them I had documentation for all 120 qualifying payments I've made and on XX/XX/2019 requested a list of the 113 payments they were counting so I could check against my list to find out what 7 payments they were counting. The customer service rep said she would email me the list, 2 months later I still have not received it. She was able to tell me that 4 of the payments weren't being counted because a forbearance had been placed on my account on the dates my loan was transferred between loan servicers. I never requested a forbearance on my account and they placed one on my loan without my permission ( note, the PHEAA is currently being sued by the state of Massachusetts for this practice ). Since they haven't sent me the list of 113 payments, I still haven't been able to determine what the other 3 payments they are not counting and why they are not.
