Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled
Consumer Complaint: Hello, I have been having an issue with getting a recount of my qualifying payments for PSLF through FedLoans. I was employed by XXXX XXXX XXXX between XX/XX/XXXX-XX/XX/XXXX with no gaps in my employment and consistent on-time payments. Payments between XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/XXXX are not being counted towards my qualifying payment. Fedloans has counted that time period as a gap in my employment despite phone calls and emails trying to correct this. The issue is I was on XXXX leave during that time period. I was given wrong information by the initial FedLoan employee I spoke to who told me to submit two different Employment Certification forms to exclude the time I was on XXXX leave. I listened and initially submitted two different forms, leaving a gap from XX/XX/XXXX-XX/XX/XXXX for my XXXX leave even though I was still employed and making payments during that time. I later did my own research and spoke to a different FedLoan employee who said that my XXXX leave counts towards my total qualifying payments because I was still employed and making payments. I resubmitted my corrected Employment certification form to FedLoan at least two times, both times they said they would correct the count. I just received a second recount that still does not count the payments made during my XXXX leave and shows a gap of employment which is incorrect. Additionally, I submitted my first employment certification form in XX/XX/XXXX. It then took 4 months for Fedloans to process and consolidate my loans. So, the payments I made during that time are not counted toward my payment count. The 4 month period for consolidation was not under my control, is there any way for these payments to be counted? Please help!

Consumer Complaint: I submitted by IDR form for new payment calculation for the upcoming year two weeks ago. I keep getting told by Fedloan Servicing that it will be 30 business days before they even look at it. Pursuant to their agreement with the Department of Education, they have 14 days to make a determination on the form so I can resume payments. Six weeks is much longer than two weeks and will interfere with my ability to make payments, especially if the brain trust finds " errors '' in the form and rejects it. Fedloan delays so they can forbear the loan and let interest capitalize. I am trying to prevent that from happening.

Consumer Complaint: In early XX/XX/XXXX, I spoke with a representative from FedLoan Servicing concerning my Public Loan Forgiveness and was told to recertify my PSLF and apply for XXXX Loan Forgiveness. They stated I could complete both forms and see an even greater reduction in my student loan debt. I filed the paperwork in XX/XX/XXXX and had made 53 of the 120 qualifying payments. I requested a forbearance for a few months because I relocated and when I called to cancel it and resume payments, Fedloan had placed me in its own forbearance for the XXXX Loan Forgiveness, which removes {$5000.00} off of the overall loan. They would not allow me to remove that forbearance, which remained on my account for several months. In XXXX or XXXX, the forbearance was lifted, I received {$5000.00} off my student loans, but the interest that accrued made my student loan increase by around {$3000.00} higher than it was when I applied and received the discount. There was zero benefit to me as a lender and it increased my overall loan amount. When I called FedLoan in XXXX about the issue, I was told by a very disgruntled employee that there was nothing that could be done and that my PSLF qualifying payments would start over because I completed the paperwork for XXXX Loan Forgiveness, which one of their employees told me to complete in order to decrease me loan. At present, my qualifying payments went from 53 to 5, which is completely unacceptable. I would have never applied for the XXXX Loan Forgiveness if the employee hadn't informed me it would help my situation, and if I had known it would restart my qualifying payments. I was nearly 50 % complete with making qualifying payments and now I have to start over from scratch, with a loan amount that is much higher than when I started paying FedLoan Servicing in XX/XX/XXXX and when I submitted the applications in XX/XX/XXXX. This is unfair, unacceptable, and a complete rip off.

Consumer Complaint: The problem is with the repayment and the advice/directions of the company. I recently had a baby and attempted to get help with repayment options. Every customer service rep suggested something different all resulting in a deferment or a forbarence. My loans are about XXXX. I have never missed a payment or been late because my credit is important to me. When the reps suggested deferment, they are capitalizing on my loan which is frustrating. I try to stay on top of the payments. Most recently I was notified my payment was going to increase to about {$550.00}. I filed separate taxes from my husband, as suggested by Fed Loan, and submitted a new IDR request through the gov student loan site. My XXXX lender accepted to app and tax information and everything was good. Fed loan denied my request, because it was recertified in XXXX, pre filing separately. They sent a letter stating if I wanted an early recalculation to please sign the form and return it. I complied and uploaded the form on XX/XX/20. I called today, XX/XX/20, to ensure the due payment wasnt going to get submitted to credit reporting because I was waiting for my recalculation. The rep said they didnt have the request and I was going to have to submit another application. I reread the letter their company sent me and she said, '' ya but ... XXXX '' I recapped what she said, at this point being extremely frusterated, and she said that my application would be denied and I needed another application submitted to recalculate payment. I asked her why the letter was sent out that stayed if I signed it, they would recalculate my payment. She was polite but basically ended the call. At this time, I am unsure if i need to resubmit an application or if the signed letter, that they send me, is going to recalculate my payment. I hate this company and they are so hard to deal with. Please help me. I just want an affordable payment. I am not trying to get out of paying my loans.

Consumer Complaint: I was told 5 years ago that in 2020 I could apply for the public loan forgiveness but now after waiting I was told the load I had does not apply. I spent 21 years in the XXXX, XXXX with a XXXX % VA XXXX, and have been working for the XXXX for XXXX and I am amazed that the Department of education is run by the government advertises such a program that is such a scam to collect more money from people. I was told 5 years ago to keep paying and when I hit ten years to submit well after seeing them take {$350.00} of {$480.00} per month I was told I do not meet the requirements. Why are they allowed to continue this scam program? The way they are treating veterans and public service workers is a crime and has to be looked into. I am asking for your help to point me in the right direction to do this. Please help.

Consumer Complaint: I have been submitting Public Service Loan forgiveness forms for the past 3 years. There is a lot of inconsistency in the Qualifying payments applied to my loans. Specifically two of my loans are " DLSCNS '' and " DLUCNS '', and Fedloan says that I have made 0 qualifying payments on the " DLSCNS '' loan and only 1 qualifying payment on the " DLUCNS '' loan. I have no idea why these two loans would not be qualifying, as I work for a XXXX now, and I have been working at XXXX for about 4 years now. Some of my other direct loans have discrepancies which say that there are 21 qualifying payments on some loans and 18 on others ; I am confused by this because I have been paying according to the PAYE plan this entire time. I have tried calling fed loan, but each time they try to get me off the phone as quickly as possible.
