Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2021, I requested a manual review of my " ineligible payments '' for qualification for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. I was told that the review can take up to one year. Through this request, I submitted a cover letter, a table that included all ineligible payments in question, and proof of payment that spans different servicers, with the payments in question all highlighted. On XX/XX/2021, I submitted a complaint via the FedLoan Servicing Ombudsman with all supporting documents and information and I was told that I would get a response within 15 business days. After 15 business days, I was informed by the Ombudsman that FedLoan has 30 days to respond. FedLoan responded after 30 days and once again told me that my manual review was ongoing and that it may take up to one year. However, I asked them about the pending termination of their federal contract and how that would effect my review and they were unable to give me an answer. I also asked them that after the transfer of my loans to yet another servicer would this mean that I will need to start another manual review with the same supporting documentation and they were unable to give me an answer. Since the FedLoan federal contract terminates on XX/XX/2021, FedLoan will be initiating a process to transfer my loans to another servicer handling the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. However, given the inability to provide me with answers regarding the effects of this transfer on my ongoing manual review, I asked FedLoan if they can expedite this review and they were unable to grant me this request. Therefore, I am filing a complaint to try to expedite the manual review with supporting documents.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: I have worked in XXXX XXXX since XX/XX/2010 and have been enrolled in income driven repayment plan ever since. I was told throughout the process that had I did not have to submit any paperwork until I reached 10 years of service. Once I submitted by loan forgiveness, they told me had I had 61 one qualifying payments. Not even half over a 10 year span, with the same employer, and same payment plan. The first 3 years are completely missing, then the payment show they were made outside of the payment window. I had automatic withdrawal, verification of payments etc.. I complained to Fed Loan Servicing, who said it would be reviewed. After nothing from them, I submitted a complaint with the ombudsmen, who said sometimes that happens when a new servicer takes over the loan, even if they were made timely. He requested a review. That was months ago. I have since submitted another complaint with My Fed Loans, who again said a review would be completed. Fed Loans will no longer service PSLF as of XXXX, and the rate this is going, no review will be completed either. I am stuck at a job that I can't leave because of someone else 's negligence and can't get any resolution. I have done my part, now it's time for someone to do theirs.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2020 I was charged {$470.00} for student loan payment. Per the COVID-19 emergency relief period I'm eligible for a refund for payments made after XX/XX/2020. I've contacted FedLoan Servicing and they said they made a request for a refund, but it could take up to two months. I followed up after two months when I haven't received the refund, but I can't get FedLoan Servicing to respond.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: I was making payments each month for past 7, that included few dollars each month overpayment. There was no Covid relief anything like it. I am still learning what this company is as when I signed for those loans I was young, did not know better nor I had excessive knowledge about loans coming from another country. Anyway, payments were made, and I do not recall making any targeted payments except first, with that said it was automatic, but the money was applied, to make 6 out of 5 loans short. The total past due showed up few cents on each loan which is ridiculous, but it can trigger late payments on all, negative report to credit companies and loan being in default and basically ruin my life. When contacted AES did not offer much of explanation except breaking down payment applied, but did not answer which payment was it, for which month. AES just offered for the payment to be reapplied to cover the past due. I asked again, no explanation was offered and with that I know I did not do payment incorrectly, because if I did that would cause issues earlier. On top of that if I am paying it off, the payments technically should be lower than previous and I was overpaying too. I believe the payment was applied whatever way AES wanted to make a past due amount, and then charge late payments and XXXX me up. For time being AES stated that past due has no negative consequences like they are doing me a favor. I think something shady is going on. I set my payments for few month manually thinking it would be easier and if I did not look, I would be in trouble. I don't know what this company is doing, but I sure would like to find out as I am not the only one experiencing this with AES.
