Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Need information about your loan balance or loan terms
Consumer Complaint: I have reached out multiple times to get information about my loans through FedLoan. I am accepted to the PSLF program, but havent received ANY communication regarding if any of my loan payments that were previously on a wrong plan will count. I have called and emailed FedLoan to ask more specifics about what I should be doing and if everything I have done so far is in line with what I need to do to get my loan payments accepted under the plan. When I did get in touch with someone, they wouldnt say one way or the other if I am doing the right thing. They told me information I already knew, that I was accepted to PSLF ( which was prior to the waiver ), but could not tell me if they had everything they needed from me or what I should do to get this information. Getting in touch with someone is near impossible. After emailing the address listed on their website it took 2 months for them to reply and they didnt answer any questions that I had, still leaving me in the dark as to if I have done the right things to do for this waiver. Other times I have called and nobody has answered and when I tried their chat option on the website, it says it is unavailable. I do not want to miss out on this opportunity to have payments accepted under this plan, but I have no clarity if I am doing anything right. Many people on PSLF are waiting on this determination to move forward with their careers and lives, but we have no clarity if we are doing the right things to get this forgiveness leaving us in a very confusing situation that could cost many of us THOUSANDS.

Consumer Complaint: Older adult students are being punished in the XXXX program. Periods of time that we are employed at a XXXX qualified employer while going to graduate school and making payments on our undergrad loans, we are not getting the credit for those payments. When the new XXXX waiver rules came out they said all payments would count. Now they have said its only while the loans were in repayment. I was told years ago that I did not have to take the loans out of repayment that I could keep paying on them anyway. I was also removed from XXXX for a period of time and told I would have to start over so I gave up until this waiver came out. This was after struggles where I asked to have the automatic in school deferment removed but it kept coming back. In addition, none of the payments made before I consolidated loans are being counted either. Lastly, if students who did not pay what they should have are getting their payments counted, why arent ours counted when we did pay?

Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/2021, the PSLF waiver was announced and I immediately began to read over the changes and take the steps needed for the waiver to help my situation. In XXXX, the waiver only mentioned to consolidate non Direct loans. I have XXXX Direct loans that I did not consolidate with my XXXX non Direct loans since the waiver was very clear about this. The consolidation occurred in early XX/XX/2021 and within XXXX weeks the newly consolidated non Direct loans were forgiven under the waiver but I was left with the XXXX Direct loans. The updated information came out for the waiver after the forgiveness of the newly consolidated loans to consolidate ALL loans, Direct included, and the waiver would count the highest number of loan payments. In my situation, this information was not given in a timely manner for me to consolidate all my loans together. As a result, I am now left with XXXX Direct loans that would have been forgiven if correct information had been given in a timely manner to consolidate everything together. I am grateful of the loans that have been forgiven but it is so disheartening for inaccurate information to be given and not allow the individuals that took advantage of the waiver early on to get counts and an immediate forgiveness that would have otherwise counted if the information had been given in a timely manner. I have been paying the loans and working in public service now for 13 years which is well over the XXXX payments needed but due to more red tape and misinformation, I am still left with the loans wondering when this will eventually end.

Consumer Complaint: I graduated with mXXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX in secondary XXXX education from XXXX XXXX University in XXXX. I then continued on to get my XXXX XXXX XXXX in secondary education with a concentration in XXXX in XXXX. During that time, I was a beginning teacher in XXXX Ohio, only making $ XXXX a year. I put all of my loans in forbearance because I could not afford to pay them. I don't remember how long they were in forbearance, but it was for several years until I could afford to repay. I never wanted to NOT pay. Because of these loans, I received an education which can never be taken away from me. However, I truly believe that these loans that were in forbearance should be counted towards the PSLF program of which I am enrolled. I have also turned in my proof of employment in XXXX of XXXX, but I have not received word as to whether my loans will be forgiven. More Transparency and communication with PSLF would also be helpful. The fact that college used to cost {$50.00} a semester compared to the cost I paid ( approximately {$2500.00} a semester ) is outrageous. On top of that, there's interest. For the PSLF, interest should be lowered, forgiven, or non-existent. Teachers can not afford the cost of college, including the interest. What the government does to people via student loans is a shame! People across the country should be outraged. Only a few months ago, my loans for the PSLF program totaled {$76000.00}. Now, because interest rates went up, my loans total $ XXXX. This amount is even more difficult to repay than the previous $ XXXX. I feel like I'm drowning. I am also a XXXX survivor. Mine & my husband 's savings is gone due to medical bills for treatment & surgeries. I believe that the XXXX should also take into consideration one 's medical debt for canceling. I have no issues providing documentation of my treatment. How do I leave a legacy for my child? The debt is crippling. Cancel student loan debt!

Consumer Complaint: I am currently with Fed Loan Servicing, and enrolled in XXXX. I am trying to get months I was in school-deferment to count towards my XXXX months. I would also be open to submitting a payment for what my payment would have been back then. Some people have {$0.00} payments counting towards forgiveness, and I am upset that I was not provided guidance on submitting correct paperwork to get this status. I have XXXX messengered and spoken to people at Fed Loan. I also back dated an in school-deferment waiver to hopefully change this. No changes yet. Thank you.

Consumer Complaint: I've been in the PSLF program since XXXX, in XXXX I learned that I had several loans that didn't qualify. I consolidated those loans into one unsubsidized loan and one subsidized loan, since XXXX I've had those two consolidation loans and 5 direct loans. Last XXXX I did an employer certification and had updated payment counts of 107 on my five direct loans and a payment count of 69 on both consolidation loans. This month I received forgiveness on the two consolidation loans but at this point the five direct loans remain unforgiven. All the loans originated prior to my public service and all should have the same payment counts under the waiver. I emailed Fedloan but haven't received a response at this point.

Consumer Complaint: I have been in public education for over 11 years and have had the correct consolidation process and correct payment plan all along to count toward PSLF. However, every year my serviced did not calculate my payments correctly, and during the process of correctly calculating the astronomical payments, they placed me on excessively long administrative forbearances. These not only further delayed my eligibility for loan forgiveness, but also accrued an astronomical amount of interest that capitalized to the principal balance. I have repeatedly asked for the process of filing complaints, whom I can speak with to resolve this issue, and how to generate a bill for those payment periods. I still have yet to receive a response. Anytime I call, I am old hold for hours and eventually request the callback. Never can get anyone on the phone. I sent the XXXX message to FedLoans and they said someone would reach out to me, but I have not received a response.

Consumer Complaint: My loans were consolidated across three services in XX/XX/2011. It took nearly 5 months for the loans to be consolidated. I was given misinformation by XXXX repeatedly about who held the loans during this time period and lost 5 months of being able to make relatively low payments on my student loans that would qualify for pslf. XXXX shows that I was in forebearance during this time period. I did not request a forebearance and have tried multiple times to have these months reviewed. DoE was the one who informed me that fedloan in fact held this loan about a month after it was consolidated. I also have a month in which fedloan was paid twice and now fedloan indicates that this payment is ineligible. The foreebearances placed by XXXX add on my account add up to 7 ineligible payments for unknown reasons. I would be done with pslf if they had kept accurate records.

Consumer Complaint: I recently contacted FedLoan Serving because they weren't following the C19 law - there is a timeframe of 8 months were it wasn't being reported as paid on my credit report I was told they put me in a forbearance unrelated to the cares act - i asked why and they said they were trying to sync my payments so they were due at the same time. First, it was never communicated to me what they were doing. 2 : I am on an IDR and my payment is zero from XX/XX/XXXX - XX/XX/XXXX at which time I re-certify. Again absolutely zero reason for a forbearance. I asked them to please update those months as paid according to the C19 law - and they just flat out said no. I did bring up that they are violating the law they responded by saying, " well we're not updating you CR Its astonishing they are so blatant in their wrong doing. I am filing a formal complaint first because I need help in getting them to do right thing and because its so egregious and they need to be held accountable

Consumer Complaint: I have been in public service since the beginning of the PSLF program. I currently show XXXX payments eligible and XXXX plus payments ineligible due to no bill due. During the earlier years instead of being placed on XXXX payment status the loan services would put me in forbearance status for financial hardship which should also count as payments. When calling I am not able to gain contact with a live person hold times are very long. The whole PSFL system is difficult to navigate. Now with the new waiver I may quailing for forgiveness but their is now clear information given.
