Issue: Attempts to collect debt not owed
Subissue: Debt is not yours
Consumer Complaint: After sending a letter of debt validation to Portfolio Recovery, I received a response letter that did not include any documentation that confirms that I am responsible for the debt. It did not include an original contract, personal identification, signatures, or any other verifiable documents. The response only included a billing statement. In. addition to a supervisor admitting on a recorded line that they did not send initially send the necessary documents, thus putting them outside of the allotted 30 days to respond. This is a direct violation of my rights under the FCRA Law. Therefore, I want Portfolio recovery to IMMEDIATELY stop reporting these accounts to XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX. In addition to removing all previous incorrect reports/information from previous months. Account XXXX

Consumer Complaint: We have been harassed by Portfolio Recovery Associates , LLC for the past few years regarding an alleged {$310.00} debt from XXXX Bank they purchased supposedly from my wife ( XXXX XXXX ) from before we were married ( 18 years+ years ago ). We asked why we never received anything from the company ( XXXX 's ) saying we owed money, and if we did, why did we have an active credit card with them 15 years later? We asked Portfolio Recovery Associates for a Bill of Sale proving what the alleged debt was, when it allegedly occurred, what was the purchase, etc... They provided us nothing but a letter claiming they purchased the debt on XX/XX/2020. We want the phone calls and letters to stop. We want the alleged debt to be removed and for it to be removed from any and all credit reporting agencies they may have reported this to.

Consumer Complaint: Portfolio Recovery Associates is trying to collect on debt that I do not owe. I have asked them to prove that this debt belongs to me on many occasions. They have been unable to do so. They bought some debt from XXXX XXXX for pennies on the dollar to make a profit. They only provide an account summary. They have no copies of my signature anywhere ( because the account isn't mine ). They could very easily say the man in the moon owes that to XXXX XXXX. Portfolio Recovery Associates is a very unethical and immoral company. They buy debt from companies with no proof that the debt is actually owed. This is inaccurate and unverifiable but it has yet to be removed. That is a direct violation of the FCRA.
