Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer
Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled
Consumer Complaint: My student loan was being handled by a company called XXXX and was taken over by XXXX. Between the transfer my XXXX, XXXX, XXXX and XX/XX/2018 payments went missing. They eventually credited me three of them but one payment is still missing and they have made me jump through so many hoops trying to get it back. I had to get documents from my bank and do conference calls with my bank. They made me contact XXXX multiple times which has been shutdown and does not have any staff to help. They promise and promise and promise to " look into it '' and call me back in " 2-3 business days, '' but no one follows up. I get a different story every time I call. Ive been told that I can only get a credit to my account and I have been told that it can only be issued by check in 3 weeks. But nothing ever shows up in my account. No check is ever mailed to me. I feel helpless and I have to keep sending them money every month with absolutely no recourse. Can you please help me? I am sure there are a lot of other people who are having the exact same problems due to their switch over.

Consumer Complaint: In XX/XX/XXXX I received a message from XXXX XXXX ( they are servicing my XXXX XXXX XXXX ) saying my loan was in natural disaster forbearance. I was not at all impacted by any natural disasters at that time and I did not request forbearance status. I called XXXX to ask what was happening. They stated that my loan was placed in forbearance automatically. This was the time of the Camp Fire so I can only imagine that their reasoning ( on the surface ) was that the loan originated in California ( I graduated from University of XXXX XXXX XXXX in XX/XX/XXXX I currently live in XXXX ). When I stated that I did not need forbearance the messaging was along the lines of " don't worry about it you can continue to pay. '' I logged in to my account yesterday to see that my auto-debit had been paused. Interest had been accruing. I was under the impression that my auto-debit would continue. I believe that XXXX intentionally manipulated and mislead myself ( and likely others ) under the guise of being compassionate in the face of a disaster. I have filed a formal complaint via the phone with them directly and requested that the interest be reversed. I have made the missed payments.

Consumer Complaint: XX/XX/2018 Nelnet posted five different derogatory remarks to my student loan account. This has caused my credit score to drop over 80 point. I would like to dispute this, because at that time I was serving in the military and had no idea that my student loan was delinquent. I am working toward making sure my student loan is paid on time, and also trying to refinance them to get them to more a manageable amount.

Consumer Complaint: Nelnet has several late payments on my accounts. My accounts have been in good standing for many years because I have either done a deferment or forebearance on them over the years. In XX/XX/2018 Nelnet has late payments on all of my accounts with them due to some communication issues. I have attempted two times to rectify the situation with them by disputing with the credit bureaus, but they have not fixed the error. I would like these items updated the information on all of my Nelnet accounts including the recently closed accounts.

Consumer Complaint: Nelnet took over my loan in XXXX. I paid monthly until the end of XXXX. I was on Income Based Repayment. Anything after 25 years is forgiven. At the end of XXXX my loan payment went from {$200.00} a month to {$400.00} a month. I called Nelnet and told them I could not afford that monthly payment. I told them I could pay the $ XXXX monthly and they told me that was unacceptable. I would need to fill out new paperwork and instructed me to fill out more financial information on their website. I did this and on their website, it told me my " expected payment '' was around {$190.00} based on the answers to their questions, however, this could not be done on the internet and their website instructed me to call them back. At the same time I requested additional information ; a copy of my master promissory note, documentation for a " pay-off '' amount of my loan, and a statement of my account for the length of the loan. Only the copy of the note was provided, nothing else. Meanwhile, I went back and forth with Nelnet for the next 2 years, including up to 12 phone calls and emails. Nelnet finally defaulted me to the Dept of Education. I explained this to the Dept of Education, they noted it and sent me paperwork for a review ( they had also added $ XXXX to my loan amount ). Before I could send my paperwork back in the Dept of Education sent me to collections, who added another $ XXXX to my loan, increasing it $ XXXX in a matter of months.

Consumer Complaint: I notified Netnet in XX/XX/XXXX that I was entering into Chapter XXXX bankruptcy. My lawyer also included Nelnet in bankruptcy. Per Nelnet Legal Department and website account my student loans will deferred to XX/XX/XXXX. My bankruptcy was completed in XX/XX/XXXX. Nelnet took the deferment off my account after the bankruptcy ended. I did notknow the deferment was removed from my account and Nelnet near sent me a statement for payment. I ran a credit report and I noticed that Nelnet had reactivated my account. My credit report states I have 5 late payment accounts with Nelnet. I called Nelnet to see what was go on with my account and I was told my payments restarted when the bankruptcy ended. Since I paid my bankruptcy off before XX/XX/XXXX my account was reactivated before the estimated date of XX/XX/XXXX. I have since be consistent with my Nelnet payment plan. I wrote Nelnet a Goodwill letter asking for these late payments be removed from my credit report due to I would have not been late will payments if I was notified the accounts were reactivated.

Consumer Complaint: I, like many other consumers, recently was informed my Federal Family Education Loans ( FFEL ) do not qualify for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. I have consistently been making monthly payments on my XXXX and XXXX school loans for 11 years, during which time I have worked only for non profit employers. My loan has been serviced by a number of companies, including Nelnet, XXXX ( formerly XXXX ), and XXXX. Throughout the course of paying back my loans, I would call from time to time to inquire about repayment options and to ensure I was utilizing the best option for my income and financial situation. I was told, on more than one occasion, by more than one of the loan servicing companies, that my loan would qualify me for the PSLF program after I made the XXXX consecutive payments. I now know, that is inaccurate information. I could consolidate my outstanding balance to the appropriate loan type, however, the XXXX consecutive payments would start over.

Consumer Complaint: Issue with Nelnet. I originally borrowed {$42000.00}. They were all in separate loans per semester. The final year of pursuing my XXXX XXXX, I get the bill to start the loan repayment and I was charged {$14000.00} in interest for a year and a half? When I called the loan servicer they said I should have consolidated the loans. How was I supposed to know that? I'm sure this is happening to many students. Fast forward, after some deferments and forbearances due to job related issues I now owe {$91000.00}. I started a graduated payment plan at {$530.00} a month for 2 years now, and my balance is {$91000.00}. That is over {$12000.00} paid in money that went into la la land. I called Nelnet and they said they can collect interest first even though I did not sign an interest only promissory note. I need help with this. I am getting charged compound interest upon compound interest. And no monies from me are going to the principle.

However, I did receive {$5200.00} from financial aide for fall term. 2.Nelnet is saying I got {$17000.00} & {$17000.00} on XX/XX/XXXX. Financial aide disbursed only amount to me on that date. 3. Nelnet is saying on XX/XX/XXXX they disbursed {$15000.00}, {$15000.00} on that date and also disbursed {$10000.00} on that date. I only received one disbursement on that date from financial aide. 4. Nelnet is saying on XX/XX/XXXX for they disbursed to me {$10000.00} and also on that date {$9400.00}. I did not receive XXXX disbursements on XX/XX/XXXX only one 5. Nelnet said on XX/XX/XXXX they disbursed {$10000.00} & {$14000.00} on the same date. Financial aide disbursed only one amount on that date not two amounts to me for one term. 7. Nelnet on XX/XX/XXXX saying they disbursed {$14000.00} & {$10000.00} to me. This is false, financial aide only disbursed one amount to me not two per term!
