Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: 1 ) Student loan is not mine, per se. it's a loan i co-signed for. 2 ) She fell behind and called to have the debt deferred. It was deferred. 3 ) They emailed me, and told me she was behind. She told me it was deferred so there should be no issue. 4 ) They would not give me any information when I asked for details on the loan. Said they could not through email ; I insisted that they do it through email a ) for proof b ) they already gave me the account number, why not the amount? 5 ) They were harassing. Called 3 times within 5 minutes. 6 ) Once I threatened going to a lawyer and filing a claim, miraculously they were able to send me secured email with the information. 7 ) I paid on the loan that I co-signed as soon as i had the information - they could've received their money a lot sooner if they just gave me the information. NOT MY FAULT!

Consumer Complaint: I have been paying on this loan since XX/XX/2011 my loan went from XXXX to now XXXX they not applying any of my payments to the principal, I've had some late fee and deferments, but I have paid over XXXX on this loan and they find a way to add it to my principal, I talked to them about it and they told me something about capitalize interest, that I don't understand, I can pay XXXX a month for the next 10 yrs and still be @ the same balance I don't think it's right, my balance would be lower.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan

Consumer Complaint: I had student loans with Navient. When I was started receiving my bills, they wanted me to pay over $ 700/month. I did my best for a while but, as a new grad with another private student loan with Sallie Mae, a federal student loan to pay as well AND living in XXXX ( with very high rents ), I was nearly zeroing out my bank account trying to pay that. I called Navient on numerous occasions attempting to see if I can do an income-driven repayment plan but they kept telling me that the particular loans that I signed up for were not eligible for income driven payments and told me that my only option was to put one or all of my loans in forbearance ( as I had multiple loans ). If I continued to attempt to make the full payment, I would have defaulted so I felt that forbearance was my ONLY option. The forbearance would only last for 3 months so once it was up, I would call back and ask if there was a different payment option, which I was told again that forbearance was the only way to lower my payments. In addition, I was charged $ 40- {$100.00} every time I put the loan in forbearance. I called and asked on the following dates : XX/XX/XXXX where I was charged {$50.00} for putting the loan into forbearance, XX/XX/XXXX where I was charged {$50.00} again for putting the loan into forbearance, XX/XX/XXXX where I was charged {$100.00} this time for putting the loan into forbearance and lastly, XX/XX/XXXX with another {$100.00} charge. They said these payments were required to put my loan into forbearance and would be going towards my loan anyway. Again, they never gave me any other option, which was extremely frustrating as I know those loans are still accruing interest while on forbearance and I had very high interest rates/larger loans. I attempted to talk to a manager/supervisor on one of the calls and that seemed to be a waste of time. Ultimately, I ended up getting fed up with their tactics of forcing me to put my loan into forbearance so I was able to refinance my loans with another company ( XX/XX/XXXX ) but it was not fair to be forced into something and have so much more interest accruing. Very frustrating to look back on and now read all of the stories regarding the law suit, since I went through the same thing. A massive lender like this should NOT be allowed to take advantage of people like that.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments

Consumer Complaint: On several occasions I've tried to have Navient reduce my monthly payments. For months I begged and tried to explain my situation to Navient. I eventually fall behind. The only thing they offer me is the a temporary rate reduction plan. Where for 12 months my interest is lowered to about {$75.00} a month. I've completed the program twice now and each time the amount of my loan increases. The loan was originally for {$5000.00}. I owe about {$10000.00} now. My cosigner is unable to help due to her own illness and unable to work and they still refuse to do anything but keep putting me back in the rate reduction program. I would like to get my payments down to about $ 95- {$100.00} where I can actually afford them. I am currently behind {$240.00}, I believe I'm 2 months behind. I'm currently back in school for my XXXX XXXX and they refuse to do an in-school deferment either. They also call me at least 4 times a day and they also use this company XXXX XXXX to disguise their number just to get through to me, even though I've already talked to Navient for the day and told them I was at work and couldn't talk. They keep offering me the rate reduction program but all it does is increase the amount of money I owe them.

Issue: Written notification about debt

Subissue: Didn't receive enough information to verify debt

Consumer Complaint: After a long career in the XXXX XXXX my daughter was seriously ill and had a chronic illness I resigned from my job and went back to school. I graduated from the University XXXX XXXX in XXXX with a XXXX XXXX in XXXX XXXX during that time I was also working for the XXXX XXXX program a XXXX XXXX and XXXX program for XXXX children in the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX as a XXXX XXXX and XXXX XXXX. I also worked for XXXX XXXX Program which was an XXXX XXXX XXXX for children in the XXXX XXXX XXXX for XXXX children as a XXXX XXXX. After I graduated I started receiving notices that I had student loans I contacted the Department of Education because I had heard that if you work for the XXXX or if you were working in a Job that you received your degree in that you could have your loans forgiven. I contacted the Department of Education got all the paperwork submitted it to the Department of Education I received notification from them that I was not eligible because I didnt meet the guidelines ( which I do not have the information at this time anymore because it's been so many years ) it was not explained clearly to me the guidelines and they never sent back my paperwork nor did they respond to any more of my letters requesting the reason why. I contacted the school and was told that it was for doctors, students oversees, and foreign students but the dept of education was saying it was for all students. But I decided to submit the paperwork again and I told them it was wrong and that the school told me about this and I wanted to know why I could not get the forgiveness. Then several years later I heard about this program again and also heard that the Department of Education was dismissing student loans I reapplied again to the Department of Education for the dismissal then I received a letter ( XX/XX/XXXX ) from the Department of Education saying that I had no student loans which this letter I do have. I retired XX/XX/XXXX and in XX/XX/XXXX I started getting letters and information from the list of companies listed below. This situation has caused me a very bad financial hardship. I have tried to get this resolved and no one wants to help me no one is giving me answers but they keep taking the money which has now caused me a Financial Hardship. I am XXXX years old retired and need your help.

Issue: Threatened to contact someone or share information improperly

Subissue: Talked to a third-party about your debt

Consumer Complaint: Pioneer, a division of Navient, has contacted friends and family about my student loan debt, even though they spoke with me at my phone number and I confirmed my address, which hasn't changed for 18 years. I am in the process of consolidating my loans, which I told her, and she insists that I work with her. I have been ignoring a dozen cell calls daily while I'm at work, and she is also repeatedly calling my wife 's cell at work. Yesterday and today, she has called my daughters, a friend 's daughter, friends, and my sister-in-law. We have the voice mails she left as evidence. This would only be okay if she was trying to locate me, which she doesn't need to do, since I spoke with her 3 weeks ago and confirmed my address, when she reached me at my phone number. I want her punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Problem lowering your monthly payments

Consumer Complaint: I've had my student loans for a number of years. In XX/XX/2008 I was unemployed for a long time, working temp positions. Navient would not allow the income base, they only suggested they gave was forbearance for about 7 years, which added additional interest. Now the interest has gone over the amount I spent on my education. I've asked them to eliminate some interest whereas the loan would be payable at a reasonable monthly amount. My loan is now close to XXXX and my education expense was about XXXX. They refused to do anything but offer income base, based on XXXX. I can not afford that monthly payment.

Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan

Consumer Complaint: I attended XXXX University for XX/XX/XXXX-XX/XX/XXXX, but was withdrawn due their changing the XXXX track for XXXX XXXX and a balance due of {$1100.00}. A loan of {$20000.00} was paid to XXXX, an interest check of {$20000.00} was paid to XXXX in XX/XX/XXXX by Navient. This was initially Sallie Mae. Since this time, the {$20000.00} loan has accrued interest totally {$250000.00} as of XX/XX/XXXX. The monthly payments average {$2500.00}. I can not pay this amount and should not be required to pay this high interest. Furthermore, I did not obtain a XXXX degree from XXXX. This high balance has affected by credit, getting employment, loans, and overall way of life. I have been unemployed for almost two years, but may be able to settle this account for a one time payment of {$2500.00}, with a forgiven balance, with this high account be removed from my credit history.
