Issue: Struggling to repay your loan

Subissue: Can't get other flexible options for repaying your loan

Consumer Complaint: If I am not mistaken there is Student Loan forgiveness every where due to Covid. However Navient has ramped up the calls within the past month. They call at least 7 times daily. All from different numbers. I have blocked the majority of them. But this loan company is absurd. I have filed a complaint on this website previously on them and the calls ceased.

Consumer Complaint: During Covid federal loans payments are supposed to be suspended with 0 percent interest. When I didn't make the payment, they said my loans didn't qualify and I should do forbearance. I signed up for that. My credit report and StudentAide.gov both state that I have 0 interest. I received a letter in the mail this week that said I was being changed interest. I called and was told I didn't qualify for the no interest. We are in a national pandemic and the federal law says no interest. I made these loans with the department of education and now they are saying they are private loans. I did not take out a private loan so I should not be changed. They would do nothing to work with me.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/XXXX, I contacted Navient about changing my payment plan. Currently, the Income based plan I am on is charging me more than {$600.00} a month, which is prohibitively expensive. The person I spoke with, XXXX, was very helpful. She explained that I could change to a graduated plan, the payment would be approximately {$190.00} a month for two years, after which time it would increase. I asked her about compounding interest, she said there was none, and I asked about a penalty payment or large payment to switch plans, and she said there was none. I told her I wanted to make that change. On XX/XX/XXXX ( my payment day ) Navient took {$610.00} from my bank account. I called them again, and spoke first to XXXX, who told me that at first, she couldn't estimate a new payment for me, then told me I had to make a " full '' payment to switch plans, and finallly came back and said I couldn't switch plans because one of my loans ( they are consolidated in to two groups which Navient now owns ) would have come due without the IRB plan. This is the first I have heard of such a thing. She then transferred me to XXXX, who said that my XXXX payment of more than {$600.00} could be used as this " bridge '' payment ( which I was told in XXXX I didn't need to make ) and that she was expediting the request for the graduated plan. I asked her at that time to confirm this for me in writing. She said she would do so, and that an expedited request would take 1-2 weeks. As of today, the only correspondence I received is a form notice telling me to call them if I want a new payment plan. I've already done that -- -- twice. I have sent an email to the customer service person who responded to an earlier complaint I had about their website showing a {$0.00} payment, when in fact they intended to take out {$600.00}. She has failed to respond at all. I think this constitutes fraud - I was told one thing, planned for a payment of approximately {$200.00}, only to have three times that much withdrawn, and then sent on a carnival ride of conflicting information. They refuse to put any information in writing. As of today, I seem no closer to the payment plan I requested. I have made monthly payments EVERY MONTH since XXXX, 2008.

Issue: Incorrect information on your report

Subissue: Account status incorrect

Consumer Complaint: In 2018 the entire loan amount I carried with Navient was paid in full and somehow the account is showing as closed. Paying the debt off was incredibly difficult as they did not offer many options for payment in full and methods of doing so. Secondly, I was serving in the XXXX XXXX XXXX during the times that Navient denied me any benefit to repayment options or anything of the like they claimed to offer service members. Instead they marked my account as being in forbearance which further delayed the proper repayment of my loan, furthermore tacking on unnecessary fees et al toward my principle balance due. My credit score continues to suffer even today given Navients blatant malpractice and predatory loan procedures. The loan has been paid in full for years now. It now shows on my report as closed and has continued to destroy my chances and hopes of providing a home for my young children given the constant negative remarks and false information added even to this day. I ask for justice not just for myself but for my children who deserve a home of their own. We have moved often in order to give them what they need and deserve and they deserve to have a home. A true home. My husband and I have worked very hard serving our country and the people of this country on the civilian side outside of our military duties for years. This is grossly unjust behavior and incredibly unfair. Navient, among other predatory loan establishments should be held accountable for the life long damage they create for the people of this great nation. The price I expected to pay for a higher education in this country has quadrupled in the negative effect and horrible toll it has taken on not only me but my family. Please do something about this. I plead for your assistance in changing this for not only myself and my family but for many many other families suffering at the hand of Navient and their predatory practices. They should not be allowed to continue preying on young Americans hoping for a better future. Thank you for your time and good day. Sincerely, XXXX XXXX XXXX

Consumer Complaint: I have submitted my XXXX loan forgiveness application. I worked from XX/XX/XXXX to XX/XX/XXXX at a low income school as a XXXX XXXX. My XXXX signed off to the fact that i fulfilled my contractual dates for 5 years completed at the XXXX XXXX. Due to the corona virus i left my school district in XXXX in order to keep my family safe and in tact. My loan borrower, navient, denied my application and will not allow me to appeal their decision. Issue: Problem with a credit reporting company's investigation into an existing problem

Subissue: Their investigation did not fix an error on your report

Consumer Complaint: I have repeatedLy questioned why I am being reported by navient for XXXX $ due for greater than 90 days passed due, these accounts have dropped my credit score by more than 200 points. I am unable to currently purchase a house for my growing family. I have attempted to work with them repeatedly, they will not combine or do anything for the fact I have 12 accounts with them, they will not do anything except repeat over and over again that I must pay the amount due, but the amount due is XXXX $ on multiple accounts and the other accounts arent due yet. Their billing processes and situation is ridiculous. It took me threatening a serious law suit last time for them to clear this up, and now 1 year later they are back to the same old games.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: I have been on an Income Based Repayment Plan ( IBR ) since XXXX. In XX/XX/XXXX I received notification that my student loan monthly payment amount would be changing, from Navient my student loan servicer. The new payment amount was increasing to {$700.00} a month, beginning XX/XX/XXXX. I made the XXXX payment on time and submitted an Electronic Income Driven Repayment Application on XX/XX/XXXX to assess the reduction of the monthly payment amount. On XX/XX/XXXX I received notification from Navient they were not able to approve the IBR request stating " Based on the documentation you provided, your financial circumstances do not meet the federal definition of partial financial hardship required for Income-Based Repayment. '' On XX/XX/XXXX I called Navient and spoke to customer assistance to inquire what repayment plan I was currently on. I was informed I was on the IBR Plan. Confused as to how that could be, since I received notification from them a month prior that I was denied approval of the IBR plan, I asked how my monthly payment was calculated. I was informed it was calculated based on the IBR application I had submitted. I advised them I was denied for the IBR and would like an explanation of how my monthly payment was calculated. I was then informed it was calculated based on a standard repayment and I would be paying {$700.00} for 153 months and {$360.00} for 63 months. I asked what year I would be eligible for loan forgiveness, after having paid 25 years on the loan and was told in the year XXXX. I then asked if I were to change to a Standard Repayment plan what year would I have my loans paid off, since my monthly payment was calculated based on that plan type anyway, and was told in year XXXX. I then asked very pointedly " Why wouldn't you inform your customers previously on an XXXX plan, whom were denied after reapplying, that they would pay less overall by changing to the standard repayment plan, since you are calculating their payment based on the standard repayment plan anyway? '' If I were to stay on the XXXX plan, even though I was denied, I would end up paying an additional 48 months, equating to {$17000.00} MORE than what I would pay if I moved to a Standard Repayment Plan. Navient is not looking out for the best interest of their borrowers. They are being deceptive in their practices by not providing thorough information to their borrowers, which in many cases will result in the borrow paying more money than necessary on their student loans.

Issue: Problem with a credit reporting company's investigation into an existing problem

Subissue: Difficulty submitting a dispute or getting information about a dispute over the phone

Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2020, I had received notifications from each credit reporting agencies as well as other vendors such as a bank, XXXX XXXX and XXXX XXXX, to just name a few, regarding the significant decline ( > 40 ) of my credit scores. I had contacted Navient ( student loan lender ) on XX/XX/XXXX and XX/XX/2020, regarding the decline of my credit scores, and the comment that a remark has been removed from my credit reports caused the decline. I was informed that all of my accounts are in good standing and a few of my loans are currently in forbearance due to COVI- 19, and I have a couple of accounts are in a grace period. I was informed to contact the credit reporting agencies because it is the credit reporting agencies who has the ability to make a decision regarding my credit scores. I had informed the representatives that I had contacted the reporting agencies and I was informed to contact Navient. I had requested for this matter to be investigated but was told that noting can not be done because all of the accounts are in good standing and this is has been reported to the reporting agency. After expressing the concerns I have and the request for Navient to advocate on my behalf, I was than informed that I can only make a complaint via writing a letter and sending supporting documents to Navient compliant departments. XXXX submitted a dispute on one account but I was told that I can not dispute the other accounts due to the fact that all accounts are in good standing, but I was informed to contact Navient regarding my concerns. XXXX provided the same recommendation but I was informed to contact Navient and the Board of Education. I contacted the Board of Education and was informed to contact the reporting agencies and Navient. Each party stated that my credit scores should have not declined so significantly, as all of my accounts are in good standing and are either in forbearance or in a grace period. Since I was told that I could not submit dispute regarding my credit scores because of the reason above, I did not move forward to dispute with XXXX. For XXXX, there is no option to dispute my credit scores. I have made attempts to resolve my concerns but have been recommended to call each parties, with no solution. Thank you for your time and patience to assist me in this matter.
