Consumer Complaint: In early XXXX I received a call to serve as a XXXX for the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX for 2 years in the interior of XXXX XXXX XXXX. Because of the unique requirements and difficulties of missionary service, I knew that I would not have access to a computer, or the internet. At that time I decided to close my Discover Credit Card Account, knowing that I would not need it, and that I would not be able to see or access statements, or in anyway communicate with Discover. I then called Discover, and informed them that I wanted to close my account for the reasons stated above. The customer service agent responded by encouraging me to freeze my account, instead of closing it, to avoid damage to my credit and giving me the option of unfreezing my card when I returned to the United States. I asked the Customer Service representative twice if my card could be charged in anyway, and he affirmed that having the card frozen would be essentially the same as having the card cancelled. I then decided to freeze my card because of the promise given to me by Discover before I started missionary service in XXXX of XXXX. In late XXXX my father, out of an abundance of caution accessed my credit card account with information that I had provided him to check on my credit card accounts. He found that discover had posted charged to my card well after the card had been frozen. We contacted Discover, found that they were residual charges that had been posted months after I had no more access to a computer, and resolved the issue. In Early XXXX I became aware of credit card charges that had again been posted to my frozen card by seeing that they had significantly impacting my credit score, causing it to drop by around 100 points. We again contacted Discover to explain that these were not charges that I had agreed too, ( they probably resulted from some XXXX subscription activated by accident by my younger brother while I was in XXXX ) that my card had been frozen under the idea that this couldn't happen, and that my credit score had been damaged. Discover recommended that we enter into a dispute against the charges, saying that was the only way we could have them removed. We tried that, explained what had happened, but received no resolution. I had too instead pay the charges, and live with the damage to my credit score. The charges were small amounts, less that {$30.00}, and I was happy to pay them, even if they were only charged because of a predatory subscription system without my consent and because of bad information given to me by Discover employees, but I do wish the damage done to my credit score to be resolved, as this issue is still negatively effecting me.

Issue: Getting a credit card
Subissue: Card opened as result of identity theft or fraud
Consumer Complaint: PLEASE HELP ME! For years I have been the victim of identity theft. For years I have been fighting with numerous creditors, collectors, credit bureaus, the IRS, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX child support, and numerous other agencies. I have spent numerous man hours filing id theft affidavits, police reports, Tax documents, fraud notices, calling on the phone, and anything I can think of which would help me fight off all the fraud which has been perpetrated against me and ruined my good name. I'm not kidding when I say I have spent an entire weeks worth of manhours put into this since XXXX. As of now, I have almost eliminated all forms of fraudulent accounts against me except for one which persists no matter what I do. On XX/XX/XXXX, Someone opened up a Discover card under my name. I don't know how they did it, but they did. I filed a fraud affidavit and a police report, and submitted it to all parties involved and the account came back as verified. HOW! I have NEVER applied for a discover account in my life. I do not have one, and I have never borrowed money from them. How can they claim this is verified? I don't know what to do anymore. I have spent the last three years trying to buy a home and I keep getting told no because these fraud accounts keep popping up. I'm tired now. I can't keep putting in this much effort just to have a company tell me they are going to hold me responsible for money I never borrowed. Please help me in getting Discover to remove this from my credit report. If they don't, then I will have to call a lawyer and sue them. I have already spent thousands of dollars in time and money fighting this so I will have no problem spending several more years and thousands going after Discover.

Consumer Complaint: On XXXX XXXX I contacted Discover customer service through their website chat application. I had received a 30 Day late report and I wanted to avoid further delinquency on the account. I told the agent who I chatted with that I was unable to pay the full balance on the account due to continued hardships due to Covid 19. I then told the agent I was unable to pay more than {$120.00} of the balance due. The agent stated they would accept the amount and then offered me a payment reduction plan that would lower my interest rate and my monthly payment and if I would be interested. I inquired if this would result in my account being closed and was told it would only be a suspension. I agreed to the disclosed terms of the agreement and authorized a {$120.00} payment. I then asked the agent if that payment would apply to the XXXX payment or if I would need to make an additional payment. He responded correct and that my plan would update to reflect the agreed up on {$100.00} payment for XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX I received an email notification that there was a change to my credit file. When I reviewed my credit file Discover reported a 60 day past due on my account. I again contacted Discover through the Chat feature on their website and was informed that the arrangement I made did not stop the delinquency and it would continue to report. When asked why this wasnt explained in the XX/XX/XXXX Chat the agent apologized and stated there was nothing that could be done. I further asked why wasnt I afforded deferment or some other relief as that was the reason I contacted Discover to prevent further delinquency I have yet to get a reasonable explanation. I was informed by the agent that when asked if I could make a payment and I stated not more than {$120.00} that was an offer of deferment.

Consumer Complaint: In 2005 I was added as a user on my grandmothers Discover credit card. Since then I have never had possession of a Discover card to use or account access to pay anything on the card. It was strictly for her to use and help build my credit. Now 15 years later my grandmother has had two XXXX, several hospital stays and is currently in XXXX which resulted in two missed payments to Discover. I learned about this when I ran a credit report to get a mortgage loan on a house, when I contacted Discover about this for resolution, they refuse to remove me as a user on the credit card, which is all I asked of them. I contacted them twice In fact in which the last time they informed me the account would have to be paid in full and closed or one of us would have to die to be removed from the credit card.
