Issue: Written notification about debt
Subissue: Didn't receive notice of right to dispute
Consumer Complaint: Jefferson capital system re aged a collection account they purchased from XXXX XXXX. The original debt was from XX/XX/2012 and they have reported to all three credit bureaus the account is 3 mo the old which makes it illegal to re age a account per FCRA. I filed a dispute and contacted the collection agency which the supervisor I spoke to informed me they have a payment processing company collecting the debt. Not only that but I am not legally responsible for this account. My debt was with XXXX not any other collection company so that in itself is not allowed. All three credit monitoring agencies have the delinquent date for 3 months from this date when it originally was XX/XX/2012.

Issue: Written notification about debt
Subissue: Didn't receive enough information to verify debt
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2020 I mailed a letter requesting that my debt with Jefferson Capital Systems be validated. I have no knowledge of this debt. I requested the following information to be provided on Company Letterhead. 1. A detailed and itemized statement of ALL activity to this account. 2. A contract bearing my signature that binds me to the debt. 3. The photo identification I must have provided at the time of starting services. 4. An itemized statement breaking down the balance you claim I owe. 5. Any other documentation you must have in order to attest to your compliance of the FCBA with this account. The creditor did not provide me with anything I requested but is considering the debt validated. They can not provide me proof that this is my debt. I am extremely frustrated. It is unfair that they can cause damage to my credit reputation but can not prove to the person they are damaging that the debt is in fact for them. I have attached the incompetent response from the creditor. What they are doing is illegal. They are not validating debts at all.

Consumer Complaint: Yes I have have file an Identity theft remove in 2018 and this account was removed from my credit report and reappeared yesterday on my credit report. The is item alone took 89 points off my score and I am very upset and willing to do anything to make sure this comes off my credit report. This is not legal if something was removed and then replaced back on my report.

Consumer Complaint: This debt was from XXXX I ordered wi-fi and I live in XXXX XXXX CA I was not able to get good connection I returned their equipment ( this was at least 12 years ago. I was not aware that I had a contract and never received any bills. I was going through a horrible divorce x-spouse XXXX XXXX SS # XXXX ruined my credit by not paying credit cards and other debts that judge had ordered him to pay ( divorce lasted XX/XX/XXXX- XX/XX/XXXX ) I got XXXX and was in XXXX 30 days at XXXX XXXX Hospital XXXX Ca ) he cancelled my health insurance. I used to be a XXXX and financially dependent in our marriage until I had a child in XX/XX/XXXX then he became XXXX XXXX and verbally at the time I was a homemaker since the birth of my child. The only reason he had any finances was that while I was a XXXX I encouraged him to get a contractors license he did and I set him up in a XXXX XXXX ( XXXX XXXX XXXX ) it became successful that is because I ran it, then after the birth of my child he suggested that I stay home that is why I became a XXXX. I became financially destitute during the divorce he did not pay the family monthly allowance the judge ordered him to pay. After the divorce I wanted to purchase a home and was denied a loan I checked my credit report it was ruined, I hired XXXX XXXX to help take off the credit that did not belong to me, they did an excellent job. I am now disputing a Jefferson Capital XX/XX/XXXX and that it originally came from XXXX which I do not owe any money the amount is {$310.00}. I have disputed this item with XXXX and they still are showing it as a collection debt which it should not be and even if it was my debt it should have expired it has been I did have an account with XXXX XXXX and the wi-fi did not work so I returned their equipment and never received a bill from XXXX and this was well over twelve years ago and would have expired. If I owed them money how come I am able to get an account for cellular with them acct # XXXX. I am filing a dispute with XXXX because instead of deleting this collection after I gave them the information I am sending you they updated the collection which decreased my Fico score. I apologize for such a long explanation. I hope you can help me because right now I am on a fixed income I only get SSI benefits {$940.00}. monthly ( I have bi-polar which escalated because going thru that horrible divorce ) I am trying to build up my credit XXXX said I could if I showed them my bank statement showing I pay rent, utilities and cellular bill. I have a payee for SSI and the bank account is in his name XXXX XXXX at XXXX XXXX XXXX in XXXX XXXX the acct is XXXX XXXX XXXX # XXXX. If you can give that information to XXXX or tell me how I can ( they have been so unpleasant to deal with ) that I really do not want to contact them. Thank you very much for letting me file a complaint against them because I think they are not working effectively with consumers. Thanks again XXXX XXXX if you need to contact me my email is XXXX XXXX

Consumer Complaint: XXXX XXXX XXXX has repeatedly tried to sue me for old debts that I can prove that I paid. In XXXX they sued me and I won the case. This second attempt to sue me was not done properly. First they called me at least 5 to 7 times a day. In XX/XX/XXXX I contacted their office to ascertain why they were calling this number again and they claimed it was still in their system. It was during that conversation they claimed they would send out documents stating that I owed money. I never received anything in the mail or in person. On XX/XX/XXXX I contacted their office after receiving a Judgement letter from the State of New York. Ms. XXXX stated that I was served, and papers were given to a family member. This is not true. I was never served and I live alone. I feel as though this law firm is harassing me for old debts that has been charged off and every method was done to pay it off. I have been in tough with the original owners of the debt. The account was closed and reported to the IRS of which I paid taxes. What they are doing is not legal and now I have a judgement against me, and I must defend my case.

Subissue: Debt was paid
Consumer Complaint: Original debt was from XXXX for switching from XXXX to XXXX from XX/XX/XXXX. XXXX did not pay the ETF as stated. The original amount was roughly {$600.00}. XXXX and the collection agency now states it is double that and reporting it as {$1200.00} owed on my credit report. I have no other collections nor bad debt on my credit. I have no problem paying what I owe but I did not owe {$1200.00}. I finally attempted to settle and was told over the phone that upon paying the settlement of {$370.00} on XX/XX/XXXX with Jefferson. They assured me they would delete upon payment. After disputing with credit bureau they updated the XXXX report as only reflecting that I simply made a {$370.00} payment and the balance of {$880.00}. When calling them to ask why did they not just tell XXXX it was paid and settled and to delete as per their verbal agreement they proceeded to tell me that " well a lesser balance owed is going to look better on your report anyway '' NO!! That is not what was agreed upon!!! They even sent a letter to my email stating " payment was made and closed ''.

Consumer Complaint: Jefferson Capital System has inaccurately aged a collection account they purchased from XXXX XXXX as new debt in an attempt to continue collection activities. Despite having disputed this information with credit reporting agencies and directly writing to Jefferson Capital ( with no response ) they refuse to provide any information to justify attempting to collect beyond the seven years from date of default with the ORIGINAL creditor, not seven years from when the collection agency purchased or has consigned the debt.
