Issue: Opening an account
Subissue: Unable to open an account
Consumer Complaint: I can't remember the date but I know it was XXXX I opened account with them in downtown XXXX RI. That's when they said I owed money that was an error, they even said that they will open an account with me and try to resell the matter which never happened. A month later I went to open an account with XXXX and they said their was a consumer report possible fraud, was so upset I went and closed my account. I called you guys and they told me to write a letter and send it in, which I did, I called back about 60 to 90 days after and they told me it was off the consumer report, but a few months ago I received a letter from a collection agency stating that Bank of America is stating I still owe them money which was supposed to be resolved and tried operating an account with XXXX and they denied me because of Bank America, this bank is the worst, I never owed any money or when they opened my account they would have put a negative balance, I just want them to stop Harassing me and lying to other banks or creditors, I just want this negative statement off my consumer report indefinitely.

Issue: Managing an account
Subissue: Cashing a check
Consumer Complaint: I am writing to express my profound dissatisfaction with the recent experience I had at the Bank of America bank branch located at XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. On XX/XX/23, I visited the bank to cash my paycheck from my employer, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX To my dismay, I was subjected to a highly disappointing and unprofessional encounter with the bank tellers. My paycheck, which was issued by XXXX XXXX, was refused for cashing, and I was informed that the bank would only honor it if I opened an account. This requirement took me by surprise and left me feeling marginalized and racially profiled. I strongly believe that the amount of my paycheck should not dictate how I am treated as a customer. This incident not only caused significant inconvenience but also made me a day late in paying my bills, which I find unacceptable. Such practices not only tarnish the bank 's reputation but also result in unnecessary stress and financial difficulties for customers like me. I request that you investigate this matter thoroughly and take appropriate action against the tellers involved in this incident. Discriminatory practices have no place in any reputable institution, and it is crucial that steps are taken to prevent such incidents from recurring. Furthermore, I would appreciate an official response the bank acknowledging this complaint and outlining the steps they plan to take to ensure a more inclusive and fair approach to serving the community. Instead of honoring the check, I have to wait 7 days for my bank to verify the XXXX party check placing me at risk of losing my insurance, and delaying other bills that could put my livelihood at risk.

Issue: Opening an account
Subissue: Account opened without my consent or knowledge
Consumer Complaint: On XX/XX/2023 I received an email stating I had opened a bank account with Bank of America. Thinking it was a mistake i ignored it. Received a second email that my account was approved. When that email came in I proceeded to call Bank of America and have a conversation with someone. They explained they would close the account that was open with my exact information since it was not authorized by me. On XX/XX/XXXX the exact issue happened again. This time when speaking to the agent I asked if this was a Bank of America issue and she claimed it was a worldwide issue once again closing the account but advising me to pay for credit monitoring, which I did with XXXX. After months of monitoring I was forced to cut cost and that being one. In the time I had the service my personal information was never attempted to be used anywhere else. Overnight XX/XX/2023 once again I am receiving emails from Bank of America and Merrill XXXX a Bank of America system as well discussing online banking and a new application. This is a BANK OF AMERICA issue! They themselves are behind this and I want my information removed from their system immediately before legal action is taken and a call to all news stations.

Issue: Managing an account
Subissue: Fee problem
Consumer Complaint: In XXXX i used my debit card to make several hundred thousand dollars in purchases from a business in the XXXX XXXX. The purchases were made while I physically located was in the USA and the transactions were all denominated in USD. I was charged foreign transactions fees that amounted to thousands of dollars. Foreign Transaction Fee on Transactions in US Dollars Bank of America Visa Card. BOA charges a foreign transaction fee on transactions consummated in US dollars. BOA alleges they are allowed to charge this fee, but the cardholder agreement is not explicit as to when they can elect to charge and when they don't. The cardholder agreement is explicit that if the transaction is in foreign currency, they will charge, but its not applicable when charging these fees on US dollar transactions when the cardholder is physically located in the USA. My account was closed by BOA but those fees have never been refunded. Recently the Biden administration has taken numerous measures to combat junk fees which include the application of foreign transaction fees just like those that I was charged!

Consumer Complaint: I had an IRA account at Bank of America and requested that the IRA be transferred to my XXXX XXXX in North Carolina. Bank of America sent a check to my credit union for the incorrect amount. My statement as of the end of XXXX shows a balance of {$6800.00}. The check they sent was for {$6700.00}. I called customer service at Bank of America and was told they charge {$50.00} to transfer money to another financial institution. I asked why and they told me when I signed up, I was told there would be a {$50.00} charge?? This IRA was opened sometime in the 1980 's at a branch in MIchigan. There was never any communication about a {$50.00} charge if I ever wanted to transfer the money to a different financial institution. Basically, Bank of AMerica is stealing {$50.00} from me.

Consumer Complaint: I wanted to deposit {$2300.00} into my account because I needed to pay electronic bills. I went to the XXXX and started making a deposit. However, the XXXX did not immediately accept the entire amount of {$2300.00}. They returned some of the money back to me. Despite this, I decided to continue with the transaction and deposited the rest of the money, making the total amount {$2300.00}. However, the XXXX gave me a check that indicated an error and instructed me to contact the bank. When I checked my account, it only showed {$1300.00} instead of the expected {$2300.00}. I have been unable to resolve this issue for several days. As someone who earns {$2300.00} a month and uses this money to pay for housing, I kindly request that Bank of America return the remaining {$1000.00} to my account.
