Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: I've been making payments on my student loans for more than 5 years. Even though I've never missed a payment and I've only ever worked in public service, my loan servicer is crediting me with less than 2.5 years of qualifying payments towards public service loan forgiveness. The servicer, Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency, should give me credit for every monthly payment I've made since I've always been employed in qualifying employment while paying off my loans.

Consumer Complaint: I am a XXXX XXXX in the XXXX XXXX. My military benefits include {$50000.00} of student loan repayment. I have XXXX loans with AES/PHEAA as the servicing agency and XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX as the lender. The XXXX paid {$5200.00} towards my XXXX loans in XX/XX/XXXX and {$5300.00} in XX/XX/XXXX. These payments go towards principal. I still have four more years of those payments plus one additional year of partial payment of approximately {$2500.00}. I am have been trying unsuccessfully to change my payment terms to interest only, so that I do not have to pay back money that the XXXX will be paying off on my behalf. AES has stated that XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX have been non-responsive and/or will not grant my request. I have faxed them two different letters and have spoken on the phone countless times. I am an XXXX XXXX who has earned these military benefits. The fact that these companies will not work with me to allow me to use the benefits is unacceptable. By changing my loan to interest only, the lender has the best chance of getting their money.

Subissue: Problem with customer service

Consumer Complaint: I got scammed by a 3rd party company who convinced me to do a student loan debt consolidation. They screwed me up so badly ... and I was working with the FTC to start a " lawsuit '' but I was getting threats and what not so I got scared and stopped. Then FedLoan servicing convinced me to put a pin on my account to protect it from the 3rd party company. I unfortunately fell on hard financial times .and also forgot the pin to my account. FedLoan servicing has instructed me to send a request in writing to remove the pin so we can discuss repayment options over the past 6 months I've mailed 2 letters, faxed 3 and made numerous phone calls only to hear " we are so sorry we don't see your request please resend. " I CANT EVEN DISCUSS REPAYMENT!!! HELP!

Consumer Complaint: I have called XXXX XXXX several times and have spoken to different representatives that have informed me t that I qualify for the " temporary expanded Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program ( tepslf ). '' I know this to be true because I completed 7 years in the program and was placed in the wrong repayment plan for over 3 years so I am a perfect candidate. The problem is that the XXXX XXXX representatives claim not to have access to TEPSLF and neither do individuals who have applied to the program. There is no phone # only an email address that does not respond.

Issue: Dealing with your lender or servicer

Subissue: Trouble with how payments are being handled

Consumer Complaint: My problems with XXXX started in XXXX when my recert was due for my repayment plan. My payments prior to XXXX were affordable, then I get a letter saying that my payments have been changed to {$190.00} a month. I called and told XXXX that my husband and I have way to much bills and I cant make that payment. They stated I should apply for a forbarence on my pond. A guy on the phone helped me fill out the application and then told me to reapply for a different repayment plan.. so I did. My account was placed on hold and I received several letters about me being approved for forbarence until XX/XX/XXXX. I received a bill in XXXX for $ 5000+ due on my payment date. I called XXXX immediately and asked what was going on. I was told that this was built up interests from being on forbarence and not making any payments. I was then told it would be added onto my loans soon as my new plan was approved. I was also told that I missed my {$5.00} payment that I never got a bill for for my new application/forbarence. I check my account on XX/XX/XXXX because I received a letter stating that my new balance of {$200.00} is due on XX/XX/XXXX. I paid this amount on XX/XX/XXXX. I checked again at the end of the month to see if my payment was applied and my account said I had {$200.00} due again. I didnt have the money to pay, but I did and it left me with less than {$50.00} in my bank account. I called XXXX immediately and asked what was going on. I was told that I did not request for the {$5000.00} to be capitalized on my loans. I told the man on the phone that this was the first time I heard XXXX say anything about me having to request it to be capitalized. He told me that once I am approved for this capitalization, then I need to call back and request that the two {$210.00} payments I made in the month of XXXX to count toward my loans and my PSLF. I receivived a text message today from XXXX stating that I missed my payment date on XX/XX/XXXX ( even though the bill stated I owed XXXX and I paid it twice ). I am so tired of XXXX finding ways to get more money out of me especially when I told them that our debt to income ratio is on the bad side. They really XXXX with my account and my financial life. I would like to attach all the letters I received from XXXX but there are so many!

Subissue: Received bad information about your loan

Consumer Complaint: When I recertified my Income Based Repayment plan, I selected that my income has significantly changed from the last year, but XXXX still forced me to upload tax returns. They ended up using my wife and my joint return to recalculate my payment. However, we just had a child and my wife is solely commission based and has not been working. As a result, or family size has increased and our income has drastically decreased. When I received the new monthly payment, which was four times higher than the previous year 's, I called to have the payment re-calculated. After explaining my situation on 11/19, that individual told me to upload my pay stub and to request a recalculation, which I did. She also told me to not pay the increased payment, because my XX/XX/XXXX invoice would be re-calculated. When I called today, XX/XX/XXXX, I was told my payment can not be recalculated and now because we can not afford the payment this month, my only option is a 30 day forbearance which adds approximately {$6000.00} in principal and interest to my total balance. The representative even apologized that the previous rep made a mistake in misleading me about the payment.

Consumer Complaint: In response to my complaint # XXXX about AES, in which I maintained that I NEVER signed ( electronically or otherwise ) a federal loan consolidation application and promissory note in 2005 and from whom I asked for documentation proving their allegation that I did so, they responded to you ( but not directly to me ) that any documentation of proof I requested repeatedly is " UNAVAILABLE. '' Now, XXXX is threatening seizure of federal and state tax refunds to offset the now {$30000.00} allegedly owed by me. It seems to me that the notion of " burden of proof '' is upside down here. I maintain that I did NOT electronically sign the consolidation document in question and further asked for documentation pertaining to the original loan. How can a person prove that she did NOT sign ( electronically or otherwise ) a document that bears no signature, contains numerous mistakes and missing information? It should be quite easy for a reputable company to provide proof of such a signature. My dispute with AES and now XXXX has gone on for almost two years, with no relief or even reasonable responses. Please help!

Consumer Complaint: I submitted my Department of Defense paperwork [ XXXX ] to be reviewed and forwarded so I can be repaid for my student loans on XX/XX/2018. After two weeks I called to ensure my paperwork was processed as normal. I was told my paperwork was lost and had not been touched since uploading it to their website. They reassured me that they would complete the work needing to be done and it would be resolved within a few days. I called approximately one time over the next 4 weeks only to be told nothing has been done with my government papers each time. My last phone interaction was XX/XX/2018 and I was told nothing has changed. For the last several years XXXX has processed my government paperwork within a few days. With every week that goes without them submitting my paperwork to the DoD, I am not getting repaid for my loans - and I am unable to use one of my military benefits defined within my government contract.
